Color authority Pantone spun the Color Wheel of Fortune and landed on Emerald as color of the year. PANTONE® 17-5641 Emerald, a lively, radiant, lush green. On opposite sides of the color wheel, this is quite a radical departure from last year's Tangerine Tango and 2011's Honeysuckle Pink.
"Green is the most abundant hue in nature - the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum, said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. "Symbolically, Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation and easily translates to fashion and home interiors."
Ms. Eiseman failed to mention green is also the color of money, which is why so many financial intuitions use it so liberally. I like to think it means we are coming out of the financial meltdown we have weathered for the past six years. If that's the case, I am ready to skip down the Yellow Brick Road with Dorothy and end up in the Emerald City.

Emerald appliances? We're still trying to eradicate avacado! I can hear now in 2033. 2013 called and they want their emerald back. Next spring, PMS introduces the first-ever line of Pantone bedding and bath products with JC Penny. JC Penny? Really? Might cost some street cred.
