Stay Connected
Principal's Message

As principal of Aloma Elementary School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2016-2017 school year, my third year with this learning community. We are all excited to have students back in our classrooms. Through our new Global Studies Academy, it is our goal to provide our students with an educational experience that prepares them for success in a diverse, highly technological, information-based global society. We look forward to partnering with you to achieve it!

As we continue to move forward under our state's new, more challenging academic standards, we are seeing so many positive changes. Our students are thinking critically and finding solutions to complex problems. We see rich discussions in classrooms and deep thinking on the content students read and the concepts that they learn. They are making connections that we've never asked them to make before. These outcomes are going beyond the standardized test - we are truly preparing students for life after school.

Our work is not easy. But Aloma Elementary School is a community of professionals. We all - teachers, principals, school counselors, support staff and the many others working with us - are collaborating in pursuit of our shared mission. We all have important roles to play in helping children reach their full potential, and we are proud to join forces in support of our students.

Of course, families and other community members also play a critical role in this endeavor, as partners in supporting both your students at home and our work in the schools. We hope that you will join us by registered for your child's individual Class Dojo account; a texting app that puts you in direct communication with both myself and your child's teacher.

Aloma Elementary School is a wonderful learning community. I feel so privileged to be a part of it. This is a very special place, and my colleagues and I appreciate the trust that you've shown in us by sending your children here every day. We will do our best to ensure they have a fulfilling, happy and safe year.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

I am looking forward to a great school year.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jennifer Sanders, Principal

First Day of School Parent Forms are Online!
This year all parents will need to complete the Parent Technology Media and Information Consent Form and Digital Learning Agreement online by the first day of school, if you have not done so already. This form lets you decide if your child can use a district laptop or tablet, can use the Internet at school, have their picture taken, be in a video, have their directory information released when requested and much more.

Filling out these forms online will allow your voice to be heard and automatically record your choices in the Student Information System. The forms can be accessed on a computer or mobile device through the Parent Access site you use to check your student's grades.

The address is parentaccess.ocps.net

Parents who know their Parent Access login information can login to Parent Access and complete the form at any time. Parents who do not know their Parent Access login information should contact their school.

AT&T will start offering discounted internet service to low-income families for $5.00 per month. This program is called ACCESS, and is the result of an agreement with the FCC that approved AT&T's merger with DirectTV in 2015.

The actual cost could be $5.00 or $10.00 depending on the speed of the service in the area. This is not high speed internet. Please see the following link for an application.
Winter Park Health Foundation: Coordinated Youth Initiative
In the belief that Healthy Kids Make Better Students and Better Students Make Healthy Communities, the Winter Park Health Foundation (WPHF) is pleased to sponsor a variety of programs aimed at tending to the mental and physical well-being of the children in our community. The programs, offered through a unique partnership with Orange County Public Schools (OCPS), fall under the umbrella of the Coordinated Youth Initiative (CYI). Programs include the School Nursing Initiative, School-Based Health Centers (staffed by Nurse Practitioners), CHILL counseling program and the Healthy School Teams (HST). They are offered in the OCPS schools serving Winter Park and surrounding communities. (These schools make up the Winter Park Consortium of Schools and include Winter Park High School and its elementary and middle feeder schools.)

Visit www.healthykidstoday.org to learn more about your school's school nurse, CHILL counselor, and healthy school team leader.  While you're there, browse the website to learn the latest health news and tips that will help your child thrive in the classroom.
