Aloma Elementary is proud to share that we will be transitioning to a Global Studies Academy beginning in the 2016-2017 school year. We are not becoming a magnet program. Our academy will serve all students that are zoned and attend Aloma Elementary School. With the support of OCPS, East Area Superintendent Anna Diaz, and School Board Member Joie Cadle, we are looking forward to providing Aloma students this special educational opportunity.
The goal of our academy is to provide our students with an educational experience that prepares them for success in a diverse, highly technological, information-based society. Our Global Studies Academy will infuse supplementary curriculum that compliments the Florida Standards in each grade level. At Aloma ES, our students will have a focused study on a particular region of the world based around a monthly school theme. This new learning will be embedded and threaded into the other core subjects. Mark your calendars for our Global Studies Open House on July 28, 2016! Parents and community members will be invited to come and learn about our first year of transition and how you can be an active part of our academy. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education!

Congratulations to Mrs. Jennifer Buck, third grade math and science teacher. Mrs. Buck has led the pack with the third grade multiplication challenge.
She assists with clubs and serves as a leader on her team. Mrs. Buck is a great role model for our students and Aloma Elementary is lucky to have her serve our eagles. Thank you, Mrs. Buck, for all you do for students each and every day!

Students learned about this easy formula for a healthy day from the Nemours Hospital for Children in PE last week.
- "5" means you should eat 5 or more fresh vegetables and fruit each day
- "2" reminds you to keep your screen time fun to less than 2 hours
- "1" is for at least 1 hour of physical activity each day
- "almost none" reminds you to keep sugary beverages out of your body
By remembering and following this easy plan, you can keep your body and brain healthy and fit.
