Principal's Message

Thank you to those that attended our FSA Parent Night last Thursday evening. For those that missed it, OCPS now has a new parent page with resources regarding the state accountability and grading system, including FSA and EOC testing. The link to this portal can be found here:

Our Writing Boot Camp for students in fourth and fifth grade launched last week.  We are confident that you will see strong writing gains as students focus on learning how to express themselves on new writing prompts that have them compare multiple pieces of text to create narrative or opinion essays. Ask your child about their writing practice and what they are learning.

Due to unforeseen circumstances our Principal's Book Club for The Hypnotist was moved to this Wednesday, January 27.  Our next title will be Eight Keys by Suzanne LaFleur. Check it out!

It will be a great week!

It's Time for Fast Start
The 11th Annual Fast Start Invitational Track & Field Invitational will take place this Saturday, January 30 at Showalter Field (Winter Park High School's field). Registration happened last December and if you child registered s/he receive a yellow confirmation form this past week.

This form tells you the events your child is registered for, has a schedule of events and lots of other very important information.  One of the best parts of this wonderful event is the Opening Ceremony with the Parade of Athletes so be sure to be there in time for this.  You can find more information at www.faststartonline.org. We look forward to seeing you there!
Girls on the Run
Girls on the run is an amazing after school program that brings together girls from 3rd through 5th grade. This 10 week program allows these girls to recognize and celebrate their strengths, instills confidence in them, and encourages them to celebrate and embrace their differences.
The lessons promote positive emotional, social, mental, and physica l development. The girls are given the opportunity to express their own beliefs, experiences, and challenges they face at this age. They also develop important strategies and skills to help them navigate life experiences. We start with helping the girls get a better understanding of who they are and what's important to them. Then, we look at the importance of team work and healthy relationships. And, finally, the girls explore how they can positively connect with and shape the world.

Physical activity is woven into our program to inspire an appreciation of fitness and to build habits that lead to a lifetime of health.  At the end of each three month session, the girls participate in a Girls on the Run 5k event. This celebratory, non-competitive event is the culminating experience of the curriculum. Completing the 5k gives the girls a tangible understanding of the confidence that comes through accomplishment as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. Crossing the finish line is a defining moment when the girls realize that even the seemingly impossible IS possible.

Registration will begin on January 21, 2016 - January 31, 2016. Brochures will be sent home with girls in grades 3 through 5. The brochure will provide registration information. Also, scholarships are available.
