Work-a-thon 2015 was a huge success!  Thanks to all of the families, businesses in our community and students who helped make the day amazing!  Approximately $20,000 has been raised to date, and money is still coming in.  The funds will be used for technology and hopefully towards an activity bus.

Elementary students worked hard as the K4 & K5 worked around the campus, 1st and 2nd grades picked up pecans at Mr. and Mrs. Rhea's house, 3rd grade went to Mrs. Bush's church to clean and pick up trash, 4th grade worked at Loaves and Fishes in Dexter, 5th grade went to the Salvation Army, and 6th grade picked up trash along the bike trail (over 5 miles of trail)!

"Many of the parents got to help their children and they all voiced how proud of them they were.  Some new parents to our school were very impressed and asked if we did this every year.  The children all seemed to work hard, enjoy themselves, and enjoy each other.  It was a very, very successful day," said Mrs. Parker, Elementary Principal.

The Junior High and High School students also worked throughout the community.  The 7th grade worked at the Spring River Zoo picking up trash and fishing line, as well as cleaned all of the tables; 8th graded assisted the elementary classes as they worked; 9th graded worked at the Crisis Pregnancy Center; 10th grade helped at the Down Syndrome Foundation; 11th grade worked in the Community Garden; and 12th graded worked at Harvest Ministries.

"The kids did a great job reaching out to the community.  I was very excited and pleased with what they accomplished.  I also received a lot of positive feedback from teachers and people that we helped in the community," said Mr. Stephens, JH/HS Principal.

Thank you!
The teachers, staff and administration want to say a big "thank you" to you for Teacher Appreciation Week!  We enjoyed the cards, flowers, wonderful meals, snacks and amazing bonuses.  The luncheon was so much fun, and the food was delicious.  We are so thankful for all the time, energy and money you put into making us feel appreciated and loved. You lifted our spirits - what a blessing you are!  We especially appreciate Tammy Barone and Sabrina Daniel for their extra effort - we have been blessed beyond measure.  May God multiply back to you all the time and energy you have devoted to us!  (Hebrews 10:19-24)

McTeacher Night

McTeacher Night was a tremendous success!  A check in the amount of $700 was presented to GCS by McDonald's.  This will be added to the money the kids brought for their offering during chapel, as well as selling pecans they picked up through the year for a total of $2,600!  The money will be used to help the school supported by Gateway in Uganda.  They are in the process of adding two classrooms to the new building, which costs $3,000.  We are thrilled to be able to help them accomplish this project!

McDonald's said their store had not been that busy or loud, and they appreciate the support our families gave to GCS. Thank you for being a part of the mission for the school in Uganda!

Junior Bible Project
The Junior Bible class has worked on an amazing leadership project.  Students read the book, "Be A People Person," by John Maxwell, and were assigned the task of developing a project based on a need they saw in the community.  They were required to contact individuals connected to the need, develop a plan to assist or meet the need, and put together a team to help accomplish their plan (classmates and parents were excluded from possible team members). Students were responsible for any fundraising required, gathering supplies, coordinating their team, and weekly project updates to Mrs. Rydholm. Some students held car washes, bake sales, and other events to raise funds for their projects. Video and photos will be presented to the class, as well as a paper, describing their project and sharing what they learned about leadership for their final.

Project focuses included CASA, Harvest Ministries, Spring River Zoo, Casa Maria, the Pregnancy Resource Center, the Roswell Refuge, the Assurance Home, individual churches, Adopted Families, Missions projects, and one student raised money to fill in the potholes on the road to the gym at Gateway.

Mrs. Rydholm is very proud of the students and loved how creative and dedicated they were in accomplishing this assignment.
