Greetings from the field! As Project Manager for the 91 Project in Corona, I'm committed to increasing awareness of upcoming construction activity. We recently passed the 50 percent completion mark for the 91 Project, and we remain on schedule to open the new lanes in 2017.
My team and I have been hearing from Corona area residents, who have battled traffic on the 91 for years and are understandably frustrated by ongoing construction changes and delays that have added congestion on local streets. Please know that my entire team is working to improve your commute with better signal timing, signs and listening to suggestions from people like you.
This new bulletin is designed to spotlight a few of the significant construction activities that are underway. All of these dates are estimated and subject to weather or unforeseen conditions. Please watch for:
1. Permanent closures of the Grand Boulevard ramps this month. The eastbound off-ramp is closed, and the westbound on-ramp will close on or about December 21. To prepare for these ramp closures, we recently restriped the Main Street westbound on-ramp to three lanes, and we have finalized our current work on Lincoln Avenue and recently restored the street to its previous condition with turn lanes. We also are extending Second Street east from Lincoln Avenue to W. Grand Blvd. to provide a new east-west route south of the 91.
2. Nighttime closures of southbound Interstate 15 at the 91. These closures are occurring Monday through Friday, nightly from 10 pm to 5 am, the week of December 14. As a detour, you can take the eastbound 91 and exit on McKinley Street, and then enter the westbound 91 to reconnect with southbound I-15. Please watch for detour signs in this area.
3. Full closure of northbound 71 from both eastbound and westbound 91.This closure is needed the weekend of December 18. The southbound 71 will stay open, but if you need to use the 71 to Chino Hills and other destinations to the north, please use I-15 to the 60 or the 57 as alternate routes.
4. Six-week closure of westbound 91 Maple Street off-ramp. This closure began on December 14 to allow for widening of the 91 roadway in the area. Our crews have posted detours signs indicating that Serfas Club Drive and Lincoln Avenue off-ramps will serve as detours during the closure. Please be extra careful in the area as we also posted a lane shift sign on the westbound 91 immediately after the Maple Street off-ramp.
If you see something on the road that you'd like my team to review, email or call us using the clickable links at the bottom of this bulletin. Your feedback and suggestions are important to us and we will respond as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and support as we work to complete the 91 Project.
