Main Street Bridge Demolition Successfully Completed; Ramp Closures and Lane Reductions Coming Soon

The Main Street bridge demolition work was successfully completed. The roadway and ramps were closed starting November 14 and opened ahead of schedule on November 16. See the "91 Seconds on the 91" video for a closer look at the bridge demolition activity. The team appreciates the patience of motorists during these closures.

Looking ahead, motorists should prepare for the closure of the westbound off-ramp and eastbound on-ramp at Main Street. These ramp closures will be in effect for approximately one year, starting in early 2015. Intermittent lane reductions on Main Street also will occur and may begin before the end of 2014. Please note that the eastbound off-ramp and westbound on-ramp will remain open to motorists.

Drivers are encouraged to watch for closure notification and allow extra travel time. Not signed up to receive Construction Alerts? There are several ways to "Stay Connected." Please call the project helpline, 877-770-9191, use the "Contact Us" page of the website, "Like Us" on Facebook or "Follow" us on Twitter.

Buildings along 91 Receiving Facelifts

Commercial and retail buildings along the 91 are getting facelifts. Crews are realigning local streets adjacent to the 91, which affect properties that are immediately adjacent to the roadway. Rather than purchasing properties, the 91 Project team is cutting and refacing buildings, redesigning parking lots, improving driveways and modifying landscaping of businesses along Pomona Road, Wardlow Road, Palisades Drive, Main Street and Green River Road.

Conducting these property makeovers will allow the businesses to remain in place and avoid the need for relocation. Work will be under way on the properties during the next four to six months. Motorists and patrons are reminded that businesses are open during construction. Access will be provided at all times; please watch for short-term changes to driveway access at some properties.

Construction Crews Performing Regular Roadway Clean-Up

Crews are cleaning up the 91 on a regular basis, in an effort to keep Corona beautiful. Team members are sweeping the entire project limits every two weeks and picking up litter in five to seven locations each week, so that the full project area is addressed at least every other week.

Motorists are reminded to not throw their litter onto the roadway. Fines for a first conviction of littering range from $100 to $1,000, plus at least eight hours of litter cleanup.

Santa Ana River Trail Construction Work is Starting...

As part of the 91 Project, work is starting soon near the Santa Ana River Trail (SART) along Green River Road in Corona. The work includes:

  • Building a temporary parking lot (late 2014)
  • Building a new retaining wall along westbound 91 (late 2014 or early 2015 to summer 2015)
  • Constructing the south side of Green River Road after the new retaining wall is built (late summer 2015)
  • Constructing the north side of Green River Road after the south side of the street is completed (fall 2015)

The improvements also will include a new, permanent parking area for trail users. During construction, trail users will be directed to the new temporary parking area east of the entrance to the Green River Golf Club. Trail users should not park at the Green River Golf Club unless they are patronizing the club. Please pay close attention to posted signs, use reduced speeds and drive safely through this area.
