Building the Capacity of STEM Practitioners to Develop a Diverse Workforce
|
We are thrilled to announce the agenda for the November 1 CalGirlS Kick-off Conference!
The day will be packed with information and opportunities to connect girls and women to STEM opportunities in California. We're excited to hear directly from a panel of girls who will tell us their experiences in STEM.
Attendees will be able to choose from a variety of workshops in the afternoon, including a session on role models hosted by Techbridge, a session on Mobile Programming with App Inventor hosted by Iridescent, and an Engineering Design Challenge hosted by the Lawrence Hall of Science.
Every attendee of the Kick-off will learn about NGCP mini-grants. These mini-grants are designed to foster new collaborative relationships between organizations that share the mission of supporting girls and women in the sciences.
Registration is almost full, but we still have a few seats available so if you haven't already, make sure to register today! And check out our travel scholarship information below - we have extended the deadline in an effort to make sure everyone in California who wants to come to the Kick-off can join us in Berkeley!
Sincerely,
The CalGirlS Team

Keynote Speaker: Judy Lee
|
Judy is one of the hosts of the PBS series Design Squad Nation, a show created to get kids excited about design and engineering. Prior to that, Judy was profiled on WGBH's Engineer Your Life and will appear in an upcoming segment of NOVA's Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers web series.
Judy works at her dream job as an product designer at IDEO, an international design and innovation firm in Palo Alto, CA. When she's not on-air brainstorming and building, Judy can be found in San Francisco remodeling her new home, growing fresh fruits and veggies in her garden, riding a big wheel down the nation's windiest street, or playing with her pug Rosie. Her engineering mantra? "Working collaboratively allows you to share knowledge, expertise, experiences, and perspectives that can only make the design better."

- Strengthen the capacity of girl-serving STEM programs to effectively reach and serve underrepresented girls in STEM by sharing promising practice research and program models, outcomes and products.
- Increase the effectiveness of Collaboratives by providing professional development focused on sustainability, organizational effectiveness and shared leadership to more effectively deliver services to girl-serving STEM organizations.
- Maximize K-12 school counselors' access to and use of relevant, high-quality resources that increase awareness of barriers to girls' interest and engagement in STEM.
The Lawrence Hall of Science at the University of California, Berkeley is proud to be the collaborative lead with the National Girls Collaborative Project as its California affiliate - California Girls in STEM (CalGirlS).
