Join us for our first Shabbat morning service after the High Holy Days, led by Rabbi Goldberg, with chazzanut by long-time member and leader of our contemplative/chanting services, Lorne Blumer. The music at this service will be dedicated to the Daniel Pearl World Music Days, in memory of this great journalist, musician and mensch, an event that we have participated in for years.

Our free children's program (ages 3 to 8) will have special activities and stories, in a classroom just down the hall from our chapel on the third floor.  Children of all ages are also always welcome to participate with their adults at our services.

HIGH HOLY DAYS at SHIR LIBEYNU: 5776

Before the Service on High Holy Day

Witty and wise, musical and meaningful. Recollections of our High Holy Day services, which ended just a few days ago, continue to influence and inspire many who attended.  We thank Rabbi Aviva Goldberg and Chazzan Daniela Gesundheit for their leadership, and the many soloists, musicians, artists, staff and volunteers who gave so much of themselves to make this a memorable experience.

We also had outstanding contributions to this year's D'vrei Torah from those in the community: Rabbi Goldberg's own on Erev Rosh Hashanah and Kol Nidreher collaboration with one of our young-adult members in a dialogue about the Middle East; and two other very profound and poignant ones from other members. They are posted here on our website.

Our children's program started with an early-morning Rosh Hashanah service for families with younger children, led by Aviva, and then throughout the services lots of fun activities including holiday crafts, singing  with Daniela and making of challas (see below).

To all: Chag Sameach/Gutt Yontif/Happy New Year!

HEW
Holocaust Education Week, 2015

Exploring the theme of Liberation: Aftermath & Rebirth, the 35th annual Holocaust Education Week will run from November 2-9 this year.  For more information: http://holocaustcentre.com/HEW

Our congregation has promoted and collaborated with the HEW committee for many years.  We have offered seminars, Shabos services honouring survivors and their children/grandchildren and wide-ranging lectures. Our Past Services and Events looks back at last year's co-sponsored event on the plight of Asian and European women slaves: Comfort Women. Our photo gallery highlights some other events we have held with Holocaust survivors.

Although we are not offering a program in collaboration this year, we urge you to check out the array of events that are part of HEW.
