High Holy Days in Review

Thank You To All

A number of kind people have sent messages letting us know how much they enjoyed High Holy Day services this year. As always, we are grateful for the outstanding leadership of Aviva Goldberg and Daniela Gesundheit. Our congregation is fortunate to have so many generous, gifted and thoughtful members who shared their talents and ideas with us during serices or workshops. Our less visible but very busy volunteers and staff worked tirelessly behind the scenes. One of the things that makes our services so meaningful is that those in attendance are truly present and participatory. We are proud to have such engaged congregants.

Doing Jewish Off the Grid: Politics, Identity, and Spirituality

Jewish community from diverse backgrounds and leanings -  whether you're Orthodox, Reform, Reconstructionist or secular, politically active or neutral - is invited to join this conference for a gathering of workshops and discussions, networking, and brainstorming. Everyone is welcome.

The conference will begin on the evening of Saturday, October 25th with the Jewish ritual, Havdallah, signifying the end of Shabbat and the start of a new week.

Havdallah will be followed by Daniel Thau-Eleff's one-person show Good People, Bad Things, in order to highlight the interconnection between Jewish identity, politics and spirituality.

On Sunday October 26th, there will be a full day of workshops at the Steel Workers Hall (25 Cecil St, Toronto). The intention for this day is to create a space that recognizes the diversity of Jewish perspectives, to movement-build with progressive Jewish community, and to generate alternative discussion around issues that do not currently hold enough space in the mainstream.

This gathering is an opportunity for those marginalized within Jewish community-- by race, class, ability, gender, sexual identity, political beliefs, or other factors--to come together to network, form projects, and strategize.

Cost: $20 - 45 CAD
