OTHER EVENT OF INTEREST
Heart to Heart
A Co-Existence Program for Jewish and Palestinian Israeli Youth
Heart to Heart is a program that brings a group of Jewish and Palestinian Israeli youth from Israel to a three-week co-existence program hosted by Camp Shomria, a lake-side sleepaway camp in Northern Ontario. Congregation Shir Libeynu is proud to be an organizational sponsor of Heart to Heart again this year.
The 17 participants have already spent about ten days together at Camp Shomria, and as these videos show, the experience has fostered dialogue, group building and experiential learning.
The teens from Heart to Heart will be spending their last few days in Canada visiting Toronto and Ottawa. On Wednesday, July 31st, there will be a community reception in their honour at Noor Cultural Centre. This is an opportunity to hear the participants speak about their experiences with the program and a chance to mingle and talk with the program participants and organizers. The guest speaker wil be Patrick Martin, Jerusalem-based Middle East bureau chief for the Globe and Mail. The reception includes a communal meal of Iftar, the traditional breaking of the fast each evening during Ramadan.
Although registration for the reception is officially closed, if you would like to attend, please email Dalia Krusner by the afternoon of Monday, July 29th at the latest. Numbers are required for catering and for place settings. Please note that although this is a free event, donations on line and at the door are most gratefully accepted (the suggested amout for attendees is $25 each).
The Heart to Heart Reception
Wednesday, July 31st from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Noor Cultural Centre, 123 Wynford Drive (off the DVP and Eglinton Avenue East)
Help Shir Libeynu help this important program!
Last year, Shir Libeynu was one of only two synagogues supporting this program. It is wonderful to see that this year, its support has been more widespread. However, Heart to Heart is not quite halfway towards its fundrasing goal for 2013. Please consider ensuring the present and future success of this amazing program by making a donation.
For more information, please contact program coordinator Dalia Krusner by email or by phone at 647-829-9812.
For more detailed information on the Heart to Heart program, please read the attached brochure.
