Celebrate Shavuot like Lionel Richie:

All Night Long!

Where Sinai Meets Spadina: Downtown Tikkun Leil Shavuot All-Night Jewish Learning Festival

Tuesday, May 14 at 8:00 p.m. to Wednesday, May 15 at 6:00 a.m.

MNJCC (750 Spadina Avenue @ Bloor)

Don't miss the free community-wide celebration of Shavuot. Drop in for an hour or two or stay all night. In addition to being a proud community partner of this event, Congregation Shir Libeynu has several of our people presenting throughout the night:

Third Session - 11:15 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. -- Room 201

David (Be)Loved: Tales of Passion

With Eden Nameri

King David shared with his friend Jonathan a love "surpassing the love of women," yet his desire for one woman was so great that he stooped to murder. Was David a man who loved not wisely but too well?

Eden Nameri has been Congregation Shir Libeynu's resident storyteller for over a decade. Her stories range from traditional Bible tales with a twist to stories about Chelm, the village of fools.

Fourth Session - 12:45 a.m. to 1:45 a.m. -- Room 302

Imagining Our Past: Jewish Gay Experience in Contemporary Historical Fiction

With Shlomo Gleibman

How gay is Jewish history? Can this past be recovered or reclaimed? Can it be imagined? Some Canadian and American authors try to answer these questions in very different and provocative ways.

Shlomo Gleibman is a Ph.D. candidate at York University, Department of Humanities (Jewish Studies and Queer Studies), Educational Coordinator of Kulanu Toronto, and a member of Congregation Shir Libeynu and Congregation Darchei Noam.

Fifth Session - 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. -- Room 301

Judaism Meets Stillness

With Lorne Blumer and Daniela Gesundheit

An invitation to chant, pray, meditate and - quite possibly - encounter the richness of the present moment.

Lorne Blumer periodically leads contemplative services for Congregation Shir Libeynu, and is currently a student in the Institute for Jewish Spirituality's program in Jewish Mindfulness Teacher Training.

Daniela Gesundheit has been serving as Chazzan and Musical Director at Congregation Shir Libeynu since 2008. She is also the primary songwriter for her band Snowblink, a duo project with her husband, Dan Goldman.

Check out the full program guide for further details.

Where Sinai Meets Spadina includes special programming for children and teens, too:

Kids' Tikkun (for ages 5-12)
8:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.

"Camp out" at the MNjcc as if we were in the wilderness in the Sinai desert! Make ice cream like they did in the olden days (without machines)! Learn about the Torah through games and crafts! All children are encouraged to bring their sleeping bags for a night of fun learning and excitement. There is so much to discover on this grand adventure encamping near Har Sinai.

Optional pajama party and sleepover start at midnight! Contact Yudit Timbo for information about the kids' program: [email protected] | 416-924-6211 x 277

Teen Tikkun (for ages 13-18)

8:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.

Celebrate "Camp Shavuot" together as a community! Participate in an inspiring and engaging program that will allow you to explore the holiday of Shavuot through food, movement, ideas, discussion and more.  Bring your swimsuit and a towel for a pool party in honour of Yom HaMayim (Water Day) - a traditional Israeli youth celebration of Shavuot!  Teens are invited to stay past midnight and join the general Tikkun.
