Parish:  The Thought
"Snow Sermon"
The Rev. Bernie Schroeder

"No one hates to miss the Holy Eucharist more than I. However, God has seen fit to give us a tremendous storm, once again showing us all who is in charge." Those simple words began my message to the congregation canceling last Sunday's service. As I contemplated this message and the meaning of the storm, I became more and more convinced that God was, indeed, asking us to take our measure. To slow down. To pray. He also showed us that matters of the world are not all that important and that the snow showed us that - as always - God is in charge.

What did you do during this storm-induced hiatus? Read? Shovel? Be with family? Think about God? Pray? I did a little of each and I rejoiced in the emptiness that allows God in. Too often we just go about our daily routine, attend church on Sunday and then go back about our daily routine. Letting God in - really in - is what we are called to do.

In his First Letter to the Corinthians, Paul reminds us that we are one body with the Body of Christ through our baptism. The Apostle reminds us, as he did in an earlier reading, that we each have a place - a position, if you will - in the work of the Body of Christ. Just as we humans are made up of many parts (head, hands, feet and the like) so is the Body of Christ made up of many parts. Paul says some are Apostles, some teachers, some prophets and so on. We are each asked to do our part but how do we know which part to play? Only by stepping back and taking our full measure of our relationship to God and the Body of Christ can we know for sure. Perhaps the Big Snow helped us get there.

Parish Notes
Christmas Greening and Degreening
Thank You to all who helped with the Greening of the church. Everything looked so beautiful. It was especially nice to have  all the Saint Patrick Members and their families that came to help. There was visiting and working together and it was truly a special event.
Degreening is sad in that it is a sign the holiday season is over. We had a good group of helpers and the task was over very soon.
