Parish Notes
Easter
In the days before Easter, it is common to see crosses in churches draped with colored cloth, but what color a church chooses to drape on the cross, when it's draped and why varies from church to church. Each church has its own traditions, but the colors of the season serve as guidelines. It is common in many Episcopal churches to drape the cross with purple beginning on Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Purple, the seasonal color for Lent, signifies repentance. On Good Friday, the color of the drape is usually changed to black to represent Christ's death on the cross. When Easter Sunday arrives, the purple or black drapes are changed to white, representing purity and Christ's resurrection.
It has been the tradition at Saint Patrick's to drape the cross in black at the end of the MaundayThursday service and to change the drape to white for the Easter season. This year, in an effort to make the Lenten season of repentance even more visible in the church, we will drape the cross in purple cloth for Lent. The drape will be changed to black for Good Friday and to white for the Easter season.

Faithfully,
Father Bernie, Interim Rector, and the Vestry

Pastoral Search Prayer

Our Heavenly Father:

Your love for us is unfailing.  You have blessed this church -- a caring community where all are welcome and each is valued.   Renew our faith during this time of transition.

Be with our pastoral search committee.  Give them unity of purpose, and help them listen carefully to your voice.  Let us be mindful that you are calling the right person to shepherd your flock at St. Patrick's.

All this we ask in the name of your Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen
