Youth Corner
|
- We had an amazing time at the Big Day Service this past Saturday. Our youth group joined over 600 youth from around the area in community service in the Stonewall Park neighborhood of Manassas. From painting to landscaping to trash removal to playground equipment installation, the youth worked hand in hand to show Christ's love in service. There was of course time for a little fun along the way as well. Rylton Thomas and Alex Benjamin were front and center for the filming of a Thank You video that will be shown on the Ellen show. They were doing the Harlem Shake along with about 500 other people at the time, and Anna Chanu was interviewed by the local paper about her involvement with the Big Day of Service. Oh, and did I mention that St. Pat's youth group is now in the Guinness Book of World Records? That's right, we are!! Our youth group took part in the largest game of "Red Light, Green Light" ever played. They were playing along side the mayor of Manassas and 600 other people. It was truly a blessing to work and play alongside such amazing young people.
Peace,
Kerry

Report on Kairos Ministry
|
We had a wonderful Kairos #26 at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, where we ministered to 34 residents, some of the comments they made during the "open mic" session at the closing were: "I didn't know God had a plan for my life." "Commissary will be so upset with me - I don't ever want to see another cookie!" "You are never too old to learn the depth of God's love", "Who knew that God could really love me?"
Kairos is a powerful ministry largely because of its ecumenical nature - team members come from many different church denominations, and we build a family of loving, caring women - this care and concern for each other is palpable and is immediately recognized by the residents who tell us they "want some of it"! It is available only through God's grace, and a willingness to accept that grace.
Again, my thanks to all of those who so prayerfully and lovingly made cookies to help with this wonderful ministry. - Nancy Burch
