Dear Foothill Families,
With the return to school and recent hot weather, the air conditioning systems at Foothill High School have been pushed to their max. Unfortunately, the air conditioning system for the 100 building has not been working at full capacity since school started. Due to the age of the system, there is a constant effort to keep the system up and running. Tustin Unified's air conditioning technicians, as well as private contractors hired by the District, have been working each and every day trying to get the system back on line and to full strength.
Over the course of the year, TUSD will be installing new individual heating and air conditioning units on each classroom in the 100 building. This project, which is currently waiting on DSA approval, will renovate five classrooms at a time and will be finished by spring. This project will solve the problem, but in the meantime, the technicians and contractors will work to ensure that the existing system is up and running.
Although everything that can be done is being done to fix the air conditioning system, there is a strong possibility that classroom temperatures will rise to uncomfortable levels with this week's expected record heat and humidity. The following steps will be taken to provide an environment conducive to learning:
- Fans will be used to circulate air
- Classes have permission to meet in the library
- Classes have permission to meet outdoors in the shade
- Classes in non air conditioned rooms will switch air conditioned rooms when available
Although these solutions are temporary, they provide necessary relief from the heat. A long-term solution is underway and installation will be completed by next spring.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely, Nick Stephany
