Principal's Weekly Update
September 5, 2014

Dear Foothill Knights,

It has been a tremendous start to the school year.  I have been extremely impressed with how our teachers started teach from the very first moment of the first day of school.  Good things have been happening in the classroom this week and I hope that our teachers' enthusiasm has reached our students.  Foothill is a great place to be!

I would like to thank our students for their cooperation and understanding in following our school rules and procedures.  I know that sometimes the start of the school year is hectic with parking, student drop off, schedule changes and lockers, but the students have been great about going with the flow and understanding that all of the issues will be addressed in due time.  Additionally, I would like to thank the students for dressing appropriately and responsibly this week.  While there are bound to be a few kids out of 2,500 that do not follow the rules, I'd say that 99% of our Foothill kids are doing a great job.

I'd also like to thank David Waibel and the great group of ASB kids that put on today's amazing assemblies.  It was the first time that we have 3 assemblies and they went off without a hitch.  It was great to see all of the students with all of their school pride.  I would also like to congratulate the cheer and dance teams.  They did great.  The band played very well too.  For the first time in 42 years, the Foothill band was under the direction of a new teacher, Tim Thomas, and we have been nothing but impressed with him and the great kids that participate in the Foothill band.

Football Tonight

Make sure you come out tonight to see the 2014 Foothill Knights take on their cross-town rival Tustin Tillers.  The game will be held at Northrup Field at Tustin High at 7:00PM.  Admission is free with an ASB card, $5 for students without ASB and $8 for general admission.  Go Knights!

Technology Meeting

On September 9th we are providing an opportunity for parents to learn more about the students devices that will be distributed this year to all Foothill High School Students. This meeting will be held in the Event's Center Gym, providing an overview of the device, school expectations, and an opportunity for you to ask questions. If you are not able to attend this meeting, we have posted a link to a video on the home page of our school website for your convenience.

On September 11 all students will receive a packet of information that you will need to review with them. On September 15, we will begin distributing devices to students.

Welcome Back Dance

This year, Foothill ASB is bring back an old tradition by holding a Welcome Back Dance (in the Events Center) after tonight's Foothill vs Tustin football game.  Students can purchase tickets at the door for $12.  Students must have their current ID.  This is a great way to celebrate the opening of school.  Doors open at 9pm and the dance will end at 11:30pm.  Hope to see all of you there!

Traffic on Old Foothill Road

Many parents and students use Old Foothill Road to drop off and pick up students.  The county is fixing the curbs along this road and the project should be done in the next few weeks.  Until the project is finished, please use extreme caution when driving in the area.  There have been a few close calls on that road before and after school and it is important everyone stays safe.

Late Start Wednesday

We will have our first late start on Wednesday, September 10.  0 period will start at 8:58AM and 1st period will start at 9:43AM.

Thank you for a great start to the school year and keep up the great work.

Sincerely,

Nick Stephany

Principal, Foothill High School
