Principal's Message - Dr. Nick Stephany

We begin the 2013-2014 school year with renewed anticipation and excitement.  We would like to welcome 13 new staff members to our Foothill family: Linda Parsons (Art/Yearbook), Cynthia Wong (Biology), Tim Gaylord (French), Steven Alejo (Spanish), Tom Giebe (Social Science), Jamie Gilbert and Ivan Ramirez (Special Education), Trevor Hershberger and Ashley Moore (English), Matt Goto, Katie Spangler, and Adam Wondra (Math), and Lori Fiduk (Library Media Tech I). In addition to our new hires, we have had some additional changes. Vince Brown has accepted the position as Head Baseball Coach, and Vince Namba and Melanie Hagstrom will assume the responsibilities of Co-Athletic Directors.

This year promises to be exciting with Tustin Unified unveiling the TUSD Connect technology program made possible by Measure S. TUSD Connect promises to take Foothill students and teachers into the 21st century, featuring classrooms upgraded with interactive projectors, wireless networks, document cameras, and the one-to-one laptop initiative coming in late January. This will take teaching and learning to a whole new level, creating possibilities in the classroom and connections beyond the classroom that we never thought possible.

I hope you were able to attend Back to School Night. Parent and family involvement, along with open and honest communication between home and school, are factors that contribute to student success. It takes a team approach to ensure our students get the best quality of education.

We are very fortunate to have so many highly qualified and energetic people working at Foothill, and we look forward to another great school year!

Go Knights!

PTO Co-Presidents' Message - Christine Goldhammer & Kerry Racanelli

Hopefully you and your student(s) have settled into the new school year and are taking advantage of all the activities and events offered at Foothill. It was great to see so many parents at Back-to-School night and we hope you enjoyed the refreshments provided by the PTO.

If you've joined the PTO and/or signed up to volunteer - THANK YOU!  Foothill continues to provide excellent programslargely due to the collaborative effort and support of the parents who participate in the PTO. The PTO supports the Foothill Community through:

  • Information - We strive to keep parents up-to-date with school events through our PTO meetings, Roundtable newsletter (thanks for reading!), and PTO Directory.
  • Recognition and Appreciation - We recognize student achievement at Honor Roll Socials, Order of the Knight lunches, Academic Awards of Excellence, and Senior Awards. We show our appreciation for our wonderful Foothill teachers at the luncheons we organize for Back-to-School, the holidays, and Day of the Teacher.
  • Support - We provide the people power (unpaid labor!) wherever and whenever it is needed on campus. We also provide financial support for student events such as Battle of the Bands, Mock Trial teams, and math tutoring.

Your $30 membership fee not only helps pay for all of the programs mentioned above and more, but it also entitles you to an all-school directory - so please join the PTOClick here for membership form.

Also, if you'd like to volunteer and haven't signed up, please click here for the Volunteer Opportunity Interest Form.

SAT or ACT?  Find the Best Fit

Foothill's PTO is sponsoring numerous events through Catalyst Prep this year in order to prepare students for the SAT and/or the ACT college exams.  All events will take place at Foothill High School.   Spaces will be limited, so mark your calendars and register early.

Hybrid SAT/ACT test.   Saturday, November 16, 2013   9 am - 1 pm.  $15.
This test simulates questions found on both SAT and ACT exams.  It will help students discover if they test better on the SAT or the ACT.  Results will be sent electronically in 10 days. For additional information, click here

Mock SAT and ACT tests.  Saturday, February 8, 2014. 9 am - 1 pm.  $20.  Students may elect to take either a mock SAT or a mock ACT test.  It will help students get the realistic experience of taking a SAT or an ACT exam (proctor and all), without the stress of the real thing (scores are not on your record). Results will be sent electronically in 10 days.

ACT Bootcamp.  Saturday, March 1, 2014 and Sunday, March 2, 2014. 9 am - 1 pm.  $165.
This one-weekend, eight-hour seminar, is designed to give students the tools to succeed on the ACT college exam.
