Foothill High has a new website, which is managed by Schoolwires. All TUSD schools have gone to the same format so our new look is different than our previous one. You can get to the new site a few ways:

We are working to upload information to this new website so your patience is appreciated.

Plan ahead!!  Work will begin on the new Tartan track sometime between March and April with an August completion date. The new track facility will also contain approximately 50 new parking spaces for community and school use.

Al Marzilli, Foothill High School Principal

PTO Presidents' Message

We hope you have enjoyed the Holidays with friends and family and we would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year. We are happy to report that thanks to YOUR donations to Nena's Presence last month, over 45 needy Foothill families were also able to enjoy the Holidays a little more. Theresa Duran from the FHS Counseling Dept. coordinated the donations; she began the program a few years ago in memory of her sister, Nena. With the support of the PTO, Ed Fund, ASB, AVID and the Foothill Recycling Center, a total of $2400 in gift cards and holiday gifts, four Christmas trees, eight turkeys and other food items were distributed to Foothill families just before winter break.

Amongst the PTO events coming up this month is the Order of the Knight luncheon on January 22. This wonderful event is held twice a year and is organized and funded by the PTO. Teachers and staff are able to select one or two students that exemplify the Knight spirit. The students may or may not have the highest grades in their class, but they demonstrate outstanding citizenship or work ethic. Students attend the luncheon with the teacher who nominated them. After lunch, which is set up and served by PTO volunteers, Mr. Marzilli makes a brief speech and then all students' names are read. Since so few students are honored each year, this is a very significant achievement and the PTO is excited to be a part of what we affectionately refer to as "OOK"! (If you would like to donate drinks for and/or help at this event, please see the OOK article below.)

Message about Drugs in the Foothill area
drug awareness
Parents,

Please be aware that we have seen a few instances of drug use on or around campus this semester, specifically the use of marijuana. As a proactive approach to keeping drugs off the Foothill campus, we would like to share some information with you.

First of all, please take a few moments to speak with your children about drugs and their negative effects/consequences. If you notice that your child has unusually red eyes, a reduced ability to concentrate, an excessive amount of laughter, and an increased appetite, keep a look out for suspicious items. These items may include rolling papers, pipes, or clothes with a strong skunk like smell. This smell comes from burning marijuana plant material, is especially strongest on the user's hand or face, and is very difficult to cover up.

Please also be on the lookout for small pills known as "Pure Gold". These pills have the appearance of a Vitamin E pill but contain an extracted form of THC (a toxin found in Marijuana plant material). A less pure form of this oil, and much more dangerous, is called Ear Wax Hash, or Honey Oil, and has the appearance of dirty wax that is gold in color (or if Nitrogen based will have a lime green tint).

If you suspect that your child is using or is in possession of drugs, alcohol, and/or narcotics, please feel free to contact the school and speak with an Assistant Principal or counselor. FHS Knights logo

PTO Logo Idea

"A volunteer is a person who can see what others cannot see; who can feel what most do not feel. Often, such gifted persons do not think of themselves as volunteers, but as citizens - citizens in the fullest sense: partners in civilization." Former President George Bush
Foothill is so fortunate to have a supportive community of volunteers who donate thousands of hours to make our PTO student, staff and parent programs possible. Although we can't thank everyone by name (literally hundreds), we would like to send our heartfelt appreciation and special "kudos" to:
Merci Beaucoup
Holiday Spectacular
Joan McBride for organizing our first ACE program of the year, "What's Cooking". Jim Kamuran, Nutrition Manager for the TUSD, discussed how to prepare for a career in the culinary arts, sharing his own career path which began at the Ritz Carlton. He finished with a brief cooking demonstration. More than 40 students attended and some were lucky enough to sample the layered salad accompanied by a sauce/dressing made with crme fraiche and scallions!  Keep an eye out for our next program in February/March which will feature a presentation on careers in the financial industry or social work/psychology.

Leesa Carsten and Lisa Leandro for creating a memorable and mouthwatering holiday luncheon for our deserving teachers and staff.
