SUAF President's Message
President Castille and SULC SBA President Patrick Harrington on steps of Capitol
President Castille and SU student Preston Castille III at Higher Ed Rally
Dear Southernites:

Could you feel it? Could you feel the HEAT from the students at the Louisiana State Capitol this week? Students all across Louisiana brought Higher Education All Together (HEAT). We all wore red in solidarity. The Human Jukebox dazzled the crowd. Governor Edwards and legislators rallied the students. President-Chancellor Ray Belton fired everyone up and told the students to continue to bring the HEAT! Our very own SU Law Center Student Bar president and student member of the Board of Regents, Patrick Harrington, was one of the key leaders of the rally. Patrick was joined at the podium by the SU SGA Presidents from our three undergraduate campuses and student body presidents from all four systems. It was another proud moment in Southern's history, as all of higher education came together in support of the future of our children. Of course, my favorite moment was standing on the steps before the crowd with my son, an SU student.

Saturday, I flew to Chicago for a special encore Mardi Gras celebration. The Chicago Chapter hosted its annual Mardi Gras Scholarship Luncheon. The Windy City Jags held the luncheon a little after the Mardi Gras season officially ended, but nobody cared. The ballroom was crowded, the music was energizing and the dancing was so much fun! Kathleen Watson, the chapter's Business Manager, was the Mistress of Ceremony and put on a great show. Federation Midwest Regional Director and Chicago Chapter President, DuWarn Porter, provided his usual amazing leadership and doled out scholarship money to worthy students. Midwest Regional Student Recruiter Georgette Carter was onsite recruiting students and making sure we all had a great time. The chapter was honored by the presence of SU System Foundation CEO, Al Harrell, and National 2
nd Vice President, Betty Fuller. The Good Times Were Rollin' for a great cause!

I often say being National President is the best job in the country. This week was full of great reasons why I love Southern University! Right here in the Capitol City, our entire System came together and let the state know how special the Southern University family is to the future of this state and this country. Around the country, alums worked to support the next generation of students who will soon become proud alumni. I now need you to follow the lead of our students and continue to bring the HEAT. Please join the Federation at www.sualumni.org and continue to contact the members of the Louisiana Legislature. Let them know how proud you are of our students and that you stand with them and for them.
