Last Saturday, I attended my grandmother's 87^th birthday party. We had lots of family there, ate way too much food, and took lots of pictures. My grandmother has dementia and hardly remembers most of us. I introduced myself to her several times during the party. It was a stark reminder of how time flies, and we should not take for granted the time we have to share with friends and family. I am truly grateful for the family I have. I am also grateful to have been able to share my family with so many of you in my service as National Alumni President over the last couple of years.

Growing older can be wonderful, but it can also be pretty challenging. After teaching my class at the law center last night, I drove to the River Center and put on my "Celebrity Waiter" apron for the Council on Aging's Taste of Baton Rouge fundraiser. As you can see from the picture, there were many notable Southern Alumni who served as "Celebrity Waiters." The Council on Aging does so much for our senior citizens. It's a fantastic organization with some really dynamic leaders. I am extremely proud of our Alums and their willingness to serve our community.

 

 

Last weekend, 1st Vice President and Dallas Alumni Chapter President, LaQuitta Thomas hosted Southern University students at the NSBE Conference in Kansa City, MO. Not only did she treat them to a good meal, she also took the time to thoroughly review the resumes of SU students preparing them for life after college.
