While in Houston at the Texas Southern game, I had the pleasure of bumping into Miss Southern, JaMya Magee, and her court, along with SGA President, Dominique Diamond, and the class presidents. Posing with Southern's Royal Court reminded me just how long ago 1987 was, when I was SGA President and escorted "My Miss Southern," Eva Hill, at the football games. As alums, our days as students are gone, but our memories live on and the students continue to bring new energy and vitality to our alma mater.

Last Friday, I had the privilege of spending the evening with hundreds of alums and fans of Southern University. I had the honor of serving as the guest speaker at the SU Sports Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony and Banquet. There were more than 650 people huddled in the Atrium of the Sheraton Hotel in Baton Rouge for this historic event.   After the enshrinement ceremony, I had the pleasure of presenting the Southern University Humanitarian Award to Charlie and Barbara Granger for their years of incredible service to Southern University and the State of Louisiana. They, along with their team of tireless volunteers, poured their heart out organizing a spectacular event again this year. The Grangers are indeed great human beings and represent the heart and soul of Southern.
