Help the Haven
Pleading for a new large capacity dryer

Can you HELP THE HAVEN? The Haven Center Homeless Shelter which often houses more than 30 children and their families at any given time is in desperate need of a NEW Electric Large Capacity Dryer.

We are putting a plea out for a "new" dryer because of the ongoing maintenance issues we've had with the machines we currently have on site. The current laundry facility at the Haven Center has 3 washers and 2 dryers which run around the clock to accommodate the needs of the shelter. Many families come in with very limited personal items and the clothes they have are washed frequently.

The Haven Center is a 24/7 extended stay emergency homeless shelter serving men, women and intact families. In 2015, 429 individuals including 115 children called the Haven home for part of the year.  Our priority is to shelter the homeless while at the same time motivating the individual to increase in understanding of what changes may be necessary to live a healthy and productive life and connecting them to available county resources to help make those changes. While circumstances can vary, the main reason people experience homelessness is because they cannot find housing they can afford. By providing for basic needs from personal care items to laundry facilities to three meals each day, Haven Center helps the residents make the transition back into permanent housing.

The emergency shelter is located at 1536 East 30th Street in Lorain and has housed individuals from across the county and even out-of-state.  In the last fifteen years, over 8,100 men, women and children have been provided with almost 255,200 shelter nights at the Haven Center.
