Like me, do you resolve every January 1st to lose a little weight, exercise more and take better care of your health? It seems most of our New Year's resolutions are to improve our bodies. I wonder if we wouldn't have a lot more success in all areas if we resolved to improve our spiritual health too.
Lessons from LeAnn

Keeping New Year's resolutions is hard, but it can be a whole lot easier if we rely on our Higher Power to help us. Statistics show that 95% of Americans believe in God. What if we began each day with just 15 minutes of prayer or meditation to connect with the God we believe in? Some people read from an inspirational daily reading book. Others meditate during yoga. Some, unsure how to pray simply ask, "Help me, God."

One summer on a retreat, I sat on the cabin's deck gazing at the billions of stars in the sky, talking to God, praying. At the other corner, my Native American friend tossed sticks into the fireplace and prayed to God, chanting in the language of his Odawa tribe. Each of us connected with God our way, each thanking and petitioning for help, each knowing we can count on God to support and guide us.

So as we pull out the rowing machines or rediscover the treadmill (currently used as a clothes rack!) and begin keeping a journal of what we really eat as opposed to what we think we're eating, we can rest assured we are not declaring this New Year's Resolution alone. As we resolve to nurture our bodies, minds, and spirits, let's trust that our Higher Power is supporting us, helping us, and assuring our success.
