Lessons from LeAnn
Typically people vow to decrease spending, lose weight, increase time with loved ones, and generally improve their minds, bodies, and spirits. Wouldn't it be great if there was ONE resolution to accomplish all that? Ta da! There is!
Preparing and eating meals at home together.
This is a simple way to save money, eat healthier, and spend time with those you love. Saying a quick prayer of thanksgiving and/or each person recounting one thing for which they are grateful that day, blesses everyone's head, heart, and spirit.
Like most of my life-balance strategies, this one is simple, but not always easy. In our hectic, fast-paced, sometime frenetic lives, we don't always have time to fix meals and and eat them together at home. Some families manage by sharing the meal planning and preparation responsibilities. Some start with just a few nights a week. But all agree it is worth it.
The City of Cincinnati did a study showing that teenagers who ate supper with their families did better in school, had better friendships, and fewer problems with depression and drugs.
How we spend our time is truly an indicator of how we live our priorities, isn't it?
So maybe this one resolution is the best investment of our money and our time, helping our wallets, weight, heads, hearts... and families.
There is nothing to lose (but a few pounds) and everything to gain!
Have a happy, healthy, holy New Year!
