What the heck is going on?
I've heard practically nothing of Sequestration a week after the world was supposed to end for the third time in three months. Remember the end of the Mayan Calender? Me neither.
The Dow at an all-time high? China's economy on the mend? Apple still stuck in the low 400s---maybe due to that stupid new adapter they made us iPeople buy.
Nothing makes sense right now economically, yet those with patience in the financial world are doing great. I hope all the positives continue, especially regarding tax season coming up!

Financial Rules of Thumb: Young Docs
9 minutes
Yes, this is a longer video, yet young dentists have a lot on their plates these days.
This is for doctors between ages 30-45. I address student loans---when to pay off; mortgages---how much is appropriate and when to buy; and practice loans.
Next, Charles Farrell's Money Ratios are covered: Savings to Income, Mortgage to Income, and Life Insurance to Income.
Investing guidelines and where to go for assistance are finally provided. The discussion ends with thoughts on college funding.
Dentist Bottom Line: Please send this out to a young dentist you know.
With each forward of this newsletter, you help keep private practice alive.

Dow Sets Record High
3 minutes
Why has the Dow set a new high? There's lots of conjecture... Google's going Gaga, China doing well, and the Fed keeps pumping away.
Bottom Line: It's just another week for the stock market. Numbers will come and go. I hear a lot about a "correction" looming, yet for long-term investors, it doesn't matter.
And no, I haven't checked my Vanguard account today!
|
6 minutes
This Vanguard video speaks to target-date funds specifically, yet is appropriate for any investment mix after one retires.
Payout strategy, including when to take out tax-deferred vs. taxable monies and how much to take each year is covered.
What if you have 401(K)s, IRAs, and other investments in multiple accounts at multiple brokerages? What does one do?
Bottom Line: I'm a huge fan of the simplicity, low fees, and diversification of target-date funds. Yet for any accounts, it's important to follow the simple strategies given in this video. |
