In This Edition:
Always a Giver, Now a Receiver
Frances, an 80-year-old widow, relies on a walker and really can't get down the stairs anymore. There are no elevators in her building, so she mostly stays inside. She sits at her window and watches the hustle and bustle of everyday life on her busy street below.
This proud lady loves her tiny apartment because it has been her home for so long. Frances and her late husband of 33 years first moved there when they were newlyweds. Her home is where she feels safest.
She used to prepare delicious Italian meals for her family. But these days, her left hand is crippled with arthritis, and she can no longer cook. Along with caring for her family, Frances herself worked in social services for 30 years. "All my life I was a giver, not really a taker," she recalls.
Frances never imagined that one day she, too, would need help. "Meals On Wheels has made such an impact on my life. I don't want to think where I would be without their support."

Tips on Driving in San Francisco from the Meals On Wheels Drivers
Toni, delivering a meal to a senior on her route. |
Know more than one way to get to your destination, since construction and congestion can often make the street you usually take impassable.
– Daniel
You need patience. Everybody wants to be first.
– Sheila
Look out for signs that will tell you what is coming next, so you don't have to make lane changes at the last minute.
– Mark
Use your blinkers to indicate what you will do next. It makes a huge difference, especially for those of us driving bigger trucks who take more time to stop.
