All carriers order Motor Vehicle Reports (MVR) as a routine requirement depending on clients' age and the face amount applied for. Even your healthiest clients who are otherwise Preferred best risks will be charged higher rates if they have a poor driving record. Studies have show that this group does have a higher all-cause mortality risk.

 

When a carrier obtains a MVR they are checking the type of violation and the date of the violation. Moving violations, such as speeding, distracted driving, ignoring signs or traffic lights and even cell phone violations are checked. If more than one moving violations  in the last few years, some carriers may not allow best rates. Each carrier has their own criteria (max number of moving violations in the past 1 to 5 years) that determines the risk class. Any

Driving While Impaired (DWI), Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Reckless (Careless) Driving violations are looked at much more harshly and may even be substandard or declined.  Of note, elderly clients with poor driving records may be subject to more stringent guidelines. If someone has been involved in any accident, it could appear on their MVR. It may help to obtain the details of the accident for the underwriter as your client may not have been at fault.

 

If client mentions any motor vehicle violations, it helps to check carrier Preferred guidelines prior to submitting any formal application.

The Allstate Corp. announced a definitive agreement Wednesday to sell Lincoln Benefit Life Co. to Resolution Life Holdings Inc., a British-owned U.S. company, for $600 million

 

Resolution Life Holdings Inc., a company founded by Cowdery's London-based Resolution Group, agreed to buy Lincoln Benefit Life Co. from Allstate. 

 

Resolution will begin servicing existing Lincoln Benefit customers after a 12- to 18-month transition, but the deal is expected to close later this year, the companies said. 

  

For previously submitted business, there are extremely limited transition rules.  For anyone that has any applications in house, call for transition rules.

  Effective August 16th, 2013, Securian Life Insurance Company will replace Advantage Elite Term with Advantage Elite Select Term in New York.

 

Existing policy holders will not be impacted by this change.

  

In order to take advantage of the current product, Advantage Elite Term, the following requirments must be met:

1) Applications must be signed and received in the Home Office by 4:00 p.m. Central Time Friday, August 16, 2013, and

2) Policy must be approved and premium must be paid by 4:00 p.m. Central Time Wednesday, October 16, 2013.

 

If the policy is not signed and received by August 16, 2013, your client will be issued an Advantage Elite Select policy.  For any case that does not meet both requirements, you will receive a new Advantage Elite Select policy.
