"Decision is a risk rooted in the courage of being free."

~ Paul Tillich
Mayor's Corner

Greetings!

Last week, I attended the CAMPO meeting for Burnet County leaders to discuss the possibility of building a road over Wirtz Dam to directly connect RR 1431 and RR 2147. Apparently, this idea was mentioned in the area road plans as far back as the late 1970's - it just never happened. With the increased traffic on US 281, there are a lot of reasons to proceed with this project now. Estimated cost has grown from $10 million in the 1970's estimate to $20 million now - but there is a new tax that should pay for it. For more information, go to www.campotexas.org/wirtzdam . The City of Cottonwood Shores expressed concern that a busy road would disturb its new nature preserve, but all others at the meeting - especially EMS and police, were enthusiastic about the idea. Yesterday's Highlander has more details.

The Highland Lakes Bar Association and the Marble Falls Public Library now provide free legal assistance the fourth Monday of each month in the Library's Community Service Room - from 8:30 AM until 12:30 PM. This service is limited to consults on general civil practice matters only - NOT for Criminal matters!

Don't forget: Flu Shots at Meadowlakes City Hall on Thursday, Sept. 29th - from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Be sure to bring your insurance cards! The line moves quickly, and you can meet and visit with your neighbors while you wait your turn. First come, first serve.

To vote in the Meadowlakes POA election, you do not have to be "registered" - you just need to own property in Meadowlakes (one vote per property owned). Property owners should have received ballots by now. Absentee ballots (or signed proxies) must be returned to City Hall by 4:00PM
on Monday, October 3rd - or you can vote in person at the Annual Meeting on Saturday, October 8th beginning at 10:00 AM at the Meadowlakes Restaurant.

If you are not yet registered to vote in county, state or national elections, I am a Deputy Voter Registrar for persons who live in Burnet or Llano County, or I can give you the proper form to fill out and then mail yourself for those or any other Texas County. Early voting will begin Oct. 24th and end Nov. 4th. Election Day will be Tuesday, November 8th - and I am sure we will all be glad when that is over!
