"Youth is a gift of nature, but age is a work of art."

Mayor's Corner

Greetings!

I now must admit that I am too busy! Too many irons in the fire! I had a meeting last night from 6:00 - 8:30 and did not write the Mayor's Corner when I got home. Actually, flat forgot I needed to do it last night because I had to leave here by 7:30 AM today to get to Austin (38th Street) for a routine medical appointment. I was right to allow that much time to get to a 9:30 AM appointment...MoPac was totally jammed! I was reminded once again why I chose to retire to Meadowlakes!

Then I had two other stops to make and didn't get home until around 4:00 - at which point, Loren called to see if I had anything for the newsletter. Aargh!!! Clearly, I didn't! And I meant to update you all about the Marble Falls City Manager's report this past Thursday (8/18) about things I think might be of interest to Meadowlakes residents...

The signal light at Avenue N / Bluebonnet and Hwy 1431 will be delayed, but they have an interim plan during school hours. I have not gone up there to see if the plan works. They recognize that the lane widths at that intersection are an issue - not sure how they'll fix it. I also learned that the contract(s) for the expansion of US Hwy 281 south of Marble Falls - all the way from 2147 to 71 - should be executed early in 2017 and they expect a year of construction on that stretch of road that we all travel frequently.

They expect to remove the traffic signal on 281 at 7th Street, and they will be looking into how to fix the traffic problems at 281 and Morman Mill (by the Post Office). They'll be widening Broadway east of 281 - all the way to 4th Street, complete with sidewalks - and maybe a parking solution around Noon Spoon Restaurant.

Necessary work on their aging water/sewer lines will require a 12% rate increase, but will be needed to comply with TCEQ requirements. They've acquired land on 1431 between Mustang and the Manzano Mile to expand water lines in that area to serve expected growth.

I'll find the rest of my notes by next week; several new restaurants are coming into Marble Falls!
