"It's a beautiful day and I can't stop myself from smiling."

~ Michael Buble
Mayor's Corner

Greetings!

BOTTOM LINE - the absolute MAXIMUM allowable speed anywhere in Meadowlakes is 25 miles per hour. In some areas, it is just 20 MPH - or less if a speed bump has been installed in a mostly vain attempt to slow traffic down. We do not have our own full-time police force, and even if we did, we'd never be able to afford to have the traffic monitored on all of our streets all of the time - not a good use of funds! So it is up to the drivers to obey the laws in order to protect our citizens.

Sidewalks were not included in the original plans for Meadowlakes. Theoretically, most of the streets would be wide enough for a car to be parked on each side and still have room for two cars (at the same time) to get through the space left between the parked cars. Some streets are even narrower (Meadowlakes Drive - in the area below San Saba where there are trees down the middle - and Augusta, which has parking restricted to one side of the street), but even the widest streets are not really that wide. Throw in other traffic (golf carts, bicycles, hover boards, baby strollers , joggers and walkers with dogs on leashes), and it is even more necessary for all vehicles and people to at least abide by our general speed limit of 25 miles per hour. Since we have no street lights, it is recommended that drivers slow down even more in the hours just before sunrise and sunset and after dark.

Since there are no sidewalks, Sugar and I usually step (sometimes leap) into a neighbor's yard when cars are approaching during our walks. Often, we are walking with one or more friends and their dogs. While many drivers slow down as they pass, quite a few don't. For that reason, we try to anticipate traffic from every direction and quickly get off the street and into a nearby yard. I am grateful that homeowners have not complained about our "trespassing" - and I absolutely ALWAYS pick up after Sugar. We all have to work together - all the time - to keep everyone safe.

Unfortunately, we can't add sidewalks to the neighborhood because the 10 feet closest to the street is where city water lines, PEC's electrical cables, Northland's TV cables, etc. are located. That 10 foot corridor can be dug up by those entities as needed to keep everything running. Every effort is made to replace the dirt and sod, though the homeowner's landscaping may make that difficult sometimes (mine, for example - shame on me!).

Nomination for Officers of the POA Board

Each year either two or three (depending on the year) of the positions on the POA Board of Directors expire, and it is the responsibility of the Association members to re-elect existing Board members or to nominate and elect new members to the board. This year, the terms of two members will expire: Mr. Joe Summers, President of the Board, and Mr. Len Fate, Director of Entry Gate Security. Association members must decide during the Association Annual Meeting on October 10, 2016, the officers to occupy the two expiring positions. The terms of the two expiring positions are for three years starting immediately after the Association's Annual Meeting.

A Nominating Committee to identify property owners or residents has been established. The members of the Nominating Committee are Mrs. Patti Wray, email glwray1@verizon.net; Mr. Blair Feller, email blair.feller@gmail.com; and Mr. Wayne Thelen, email at wcthelen@hotmail.com. These committee members have all been actively involved in our community for many years.

The Board asks that Association members to consider serving on the Board of Directors to assure that a solid cross-section of our community is represented.

Property owners or residents who are interested in being considered for one of the two Board positions are asked to contact one of the three members of the Nominating Committee at their respective emails by 27 July.

As you may know, at the Meadowlakes Property Owners Association (POA) Meeting on February 16th, the Board voted to start a program that allows members of the Association to honor one or more family members who currently serve or have served in the United States Armed Forces by placing a Memorial Brick in designated sections of the Park.

The initial order was well received and 132 bricks have arrived and been installed at the Park and we have enough initialorders on hand to make another order. If you wish to participate and have not yet ordered a brick, please do so by July 20, 2016, our next order date.

The 8"x 8" x 2 1/4"  Bricks still will have the Honoree Name, Branch of Service, its Motto and Duration served.

Actual cost of each brick is still $29.50 each, payable in advance. Shipping is free in quantities of 10 or more and the POA will bear the associated installation cost. The program will continue to run periodically until we no longer have orders to fill.

Should you wish to participate, see Debbie Holley at the POA office, 177 Broadmoor, with the necessary information and $29.50 cash or check for each Brick you wish placed in the park. Please insure we have the correct spelling and data when you order.

The POA looks forward to and thanks you for your continued participation'
