"Satisfaction of one's curiosity is one of the greatest sources of happiness in life."

~ Linus Pauling
Mayor's Corner

Greetings!
I hope you were able to participate in the spectacular Fourth of July celebration put on by our Property Owners Association! In spite of the heat, a great number of residents turned out -on decorated bicycles, golf carts and hover boards (is that what they are called?) or on foot. At the end of the parade in our Lakeside Park, participants lined up for cake and ice cream - and music! We are so very lucky to live in Meadowlakes, Texas!   And we can see the Marble Falls fireworks without leaving our city - I was happy to avoid the traffic and still see (and hear) the wonderful show. I'll try to attach photos taken by my daughter of both the parade and the fireworks, but I may have technical difficulties.

The Highland Lakes SPCA recently launched a brand new web site.  Their web address is the same as before:  hlspca.org. Their new web site provides significantly more information in an easy to navigate format.   Click on their link in this paragraph and then on "Available Dogs" and you can scroll down and drag the cursor over the individual dogs' pictures for a few more details. Click again on any dog that interests you for even more info.

Our City Directories are updated constantly. We now print in small batches, so whenever you buy a directory (a bargain at just $3) it will be the most current version possible. For that reason, it is important that you notify the City if any of your information changes (phone number, for example). We always show names and addresses, but we do not print phone numbers unless specifically authorized to do so by the resident.

I attended the Marble Falls City Council meeting on July 5th. I learned that those condos being constructed on Hwy 2147 across the lake from Pecan Valley will ultimately consist of 94 units in seven different styles in nine buildings to accommodate a maximum of 698 vacationers at a time. They are already expecting 57 guests for the week of July 27. Once all of the buildings are completed, they expect 6,000 arrivals per year. They will start with 30 full-time employees, building to more than 60.

I also learned that they are hoping to have a stoplight in place for the new intersection of 1431 with Avenue N and Bluebonnet - but apparently the State of Texas has a "shortage" of stoplights at this time, so they are not sure the lights will be in place before school starts. In addition, Marble Falls is planning to study the impact of stoplights currently on 281 between 2nd Street and 1431. It has been suggested that it might be a good idea to remove either the 2nd St. or 3rd St. light - and/or either the 6th St. or 7th St. light. Nothing will happen soon, though one council member suggested they just move one of those lights to the 1431/Ave. N intersection.

Please remember - the maximum speed allowed anywhere in Meadowlakes is 25 MPH - and in some places, just 20 MPH. Lots of kids playing in the neighborhood - always drive carefully!

Landscaping of POA Common Ground for Park to Honor First Responders

You have likely noticed the preliminary dirt work that is going on the island at the intersection of Meadowlakes Drive and Fairway Lane. For many years this island has remained without landscaping. That is changing.

Within the next few months the POA and the City are working to landscape the island to honor our community's and our nation's First Responders - the firefighters, emergency medical personnel and law enforcement officers that risk their safety to protect us individually and as a community.

The new landscaping will include a low natural stonewall to provide a separation for elevation change between a viewing area at Meadowlakes Drive and a xeriscape garden on the higher elevation featuring a central cascading water fountain containing 3 bubbling mossy stones (also locally referred to as living stones - one for each field of first responders) surrounded by accent stone elements and a circular walkway. A plaque honoring our First Responders will be located at the site. Also toward the center of the elevated area and behind the fountain will be 3 evergreen Mediterranean cypress tress surrounded by other accent and evergreen shrubs. Every effort will be made to install the landscaping and accents with water conservation in mind.

Funding for the landscaping is from the monies made available to the POA through the sale of POA properties about 10 years ago located in Lake Marble Falls. The POA Board at that time earmarked those monies for future parks improvements -- so, the new landscaping does not impact the POA annual fee assessments.

Request for Help in Drafting the Inscription to Honor First Responders. We want to assure that the inscription captures the community's appreciation for the sacrifice of our First Responders, and we ask that residents and property owners help in drafting the inscription. If you would like to help, please contact Jim Woods at jrwpdw@nctv.com  to volunteer.
