 Mayor's Corner
Greetings!
It is hard to believe that 2016 is almost half over already. The City's fiscal year starts on October 1st and the POA's starts September 1st so both entities have begun the process to develop our budgets for FY 2017. Citizen input is always appreciated!
I always look forward to the POA's annual Fourth of July celebration, culminating with ice cream and cake in Lakeside Park. This event is always a highlight of the year for our community. This year, to extend the celebration, the swimming pool will be open with free admission all afternoon, and you can buy hot dogs at the Meadowlakes Restaurant from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM (hot dog, coleslaw, and chips plus soda, tea or lemonade for just $6). The bar opens at 11:00 AM and will be available all afternoon...and the tennis courts and new pickle ball courts are ready for play. Parade, hot dogs, golf, tennis, swimming - a great time to be had by all! And there are several spots from which we can watch Marble Falls fireworks without even leaving the neighborhood!
There have been an increasing number of kids driving around the neighborhood on golf carts without a licensed driver on board, and others are ringing door bells late at night or very early in the morning. Both of these are dangerous activities. Golf carts must obey all traffic laws. And if someone lives alone and falls and is injured while rushing to answer the door in the middle of the night, they may not be able to get to a phone to call for help...and may lie there a long time before someone checks on them. At least half of our homeowners are over age 60.
Just a reminder - the golf cart paths are available for walkers in the morning until the first tee time (around 7:45 AM) and again in the evenings after golfers have finished for the day (usually 30 minutes or so before sunset). We absolutely MUST pick up after our dogs - whether walking on the cart paths or on our streets. I always carry at least 2 bags to be sure!
This week, I took advantage of the Pedernales Electric Coop's offer for a FREE review of my home's energy efficiency. Chris Denison is the energy management representative for our area. Understandably, he is very busy at this time of year, so if you want to get on the schedule, call PEC (888-554-4732) or go to their website (www.pec.coop) for more info. My house was built in the mid to late 70's so I expected bad news...turns out, I'm not losing or wasting much energy at all, though there are a few easy and inexpensive improvements I can make.

The Marble Falls Public Library will hold their second annual Patriotic Concert on Friday, July,1st at 4:00PM. The concert, featuring the Hill Country Community Band, will be in the main area of the library. This concert is free and open to the public and is appropriate for all ages. Having a full band in a library may seem like a contradiction, but for this special occasion, the spacious Marble Falls Public Library becomes a community auditorium. Conductor Alan Dean adeptly leads the band of volunteer musicians in a program of patriotic and military songs. Audience members are welcome to tap their toes and hum along with the moving music. For more information on this event, contact the Marble Falls Public Library at 830-693-3023 or visit MarbleFallsLibrary.org . The library is located at 101 Main, in Marble Falls. |

Landscaping of POA Common Ground for Park to Honor First Responders
You have likely noticed the preliminary dirt work that is going on the island at the intersection of Meadowlakes Drive and Fairway Lane. For many years this island has remained without landscaping. That is changing.
Within the next few months the POA and the City are working to landscape the island to honor our community's and our nation's First Responders - the firefighters, emergency medical personnel and law enforcement officers that risk their safety to protect us individually and as a community.
The new landscaping will include a low natural stonewall to provide a separation for elevation change between a viewing area at Meadowlakes Drive and a xeriscape garden on the higher elevation featuring a central cascading water fountain containing 3 bubbling mossy stones (also locally referred to as living stones - one for each field of first responders) surrounded by accent stone elements and a circular walkway. A plaque honoring our First Responders will be located at the site. Also toward the center of the elevated area and behind the fountain will be 3 evergreen Mediterranean cypress tress surrounded by other accent and evergreen shrubs. Every effort will be made to install the landscaping and accents with water conservation in mind.
Funding for the landscaping is from the monies made available to the POA through the sale of POA properties about 10 years ago located in Lake Marble Falls. The POA Board at that time earmarked those monies for future parks improvements -- so, the new landscaping does not impact the POA annual fee assessments.
Request for Help in Drafting the Inscription to Honor First Responders. We want to assure that the inscription captures the community's appreciation for the sacrifice of our First Responders, and we ask that residents and property owners help in drafting the inscription. If you would like to help, please contact Jim Woods at jrwpdw@nctv.com to volunteer.
