"All great achievements require time."

~ Maya Angelou
Mayor's Corner

Greetings!
Another Meadowlakes pet, this time a cat, has died of leptospirosis. If you aren't sure that your animal friend's most recent vaccination included leptospirosis protection, please check with your vet. Also, the local weather guy announced that the heat has made it imperative that pets not be kept outside for more than a short period of time, and that they always have shade and water available when they are outside. I'm sure that goes for children and adults, too. Please walk your dogs (especially small ones) very early in the day or near sunset. Even my 10 year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback, bred to chase lions for 24 hours across the African desert without water or food, is panting after a brief walk these days...me, too.

The City Council meeting yesterday evening was attended by a large group of our citizens. We discussed the findings and suggestions of the Capital Improvements and Long Range Planning Committee. Mike Barry and I were appointed by the Council to review the wide range of suggested improvements and gather more details as needed to develop a plan. Meadowlakes is more than 40 years old and has changed a lot. Right now, there are more than 20 homes either under construction or being remodeled. What the City does now, working with our POA, will need to be designed to serve our community for the foreseeable future.

The Council heard from Johnny Campbell, Executive Director of the Marble Falls Area EMS, Inc., about their program to provide child safety seats and to train both parents and EMS staff regarding proper installation. Shockingly, Johnny said 90% of the seats they've inspected were installed improperly! The State of Texas added a fee of $1.50 to Meadowlakes residents' automobile license registrations and renewals beginning January 1, 2016. The state will pay these fees quarterly to participating cities to be used for certain charitable purposes. Our Council voted to donate the Meadowlakes share of the fees collected in 2016 (on average estimated to be $500/quarter) to the EMS for child safety seat purposes. NOTE: If you want to be sure your child safety seat is installed properly, you can stop by an EMS location.
The POA's annual Fourth of July celebration is just 10 days away. It is time to start planning your entry in the parade. Prizes will be awarded in several categories (listed below in this newsletter). The parade participants will need to start lining up in the Meadowlakes Restaurant/Hidden Falls Golf Course parking lot beginning at 9:30 AM on Monday, July 4th. Come even earlier for face painting (starting at 9:00). As usual, the parade will start at 10:00 and will proceed down Meadowlakes Drive to Lakeside Park. Watchers can find a shady place along the route and then join the community in the park for cake and ice cream and live music by the Mike McKeown Band. This event is always a highlight of the year for our community.

The revitalized tennis courts and new pickle ball courts are ready for play. Sugar and I walked over the check them out very early this morning...WOW! You can reserve court time and even rent pickle ball equipment in the Pro Shop, and arrangements are being made for tennis instruction from ProLinks. I should have more details for our next newsletter.

The Marble Falls Public Library will hold their second annual Patriotic Concert on Friday, July,1st at 4:00PM.
The concert, featuring the Hill Country Community Band, will be in the main area of the library. This concert is free and open to
the public and is appropriate for all ages.

Having a full band in a library may seem like a contradiction, but for this special occasion, the spacious Marble Falls Public Library becomes a community auditorium. Conductor Alan Dean adeptly leads the band of volunteer musicians in a program of patriotic and military songs. Audience members are welcome to tap their toes and hum along with the moving music.

For more information on this event, contact the Marble Falls Public Library at 830-693-3023 or visit MarbleFallsLibrary.org. The library is located at 101 Main, in Marble Falls.
