"The only way to have a friend is to be one."

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Mayor's Corner

Greetings!

I must admit that I feel a bit guilty because my daughter and I took our first vacation in more than a year and spent all of last week on the beach in Puerto Vallarta. Her phone was in "international mode" so she kept getting flash flood and low water crossing warnings for the Austin area. Oddly, that is where we were when Meadowlakes was hit by that 19" rain several years ago. I guess we are the official drought breakers for Meadowlakes.

The City of Marble Falls invited mayors and city officials from the surrounding area (Meadowlakes, Highland Haven, Cottonwood Shores, etc.) to a "kick-off" meeting this past Monday to begin to gather community input to assist in planning for their parks and recreation areas. They have retained a consulting group (Halff Associates, Inc.) to help determine exactly how to proceed. Meetings with various interest groups will be taking place over the next few weeks.

Marble Falls is planning major improvements, including the addition of a convention center and a 150+ bed hotel in the recently cleared area between Yett Street and Lake Marble Falls. Their target for a completed plan is early January 2017. In the near future, they plan to announce a link on the City of Marble Falls website for anyone (not just Marble Falls citizens) to participate in a survey to help determine exactly what residents of this area would like to see. You will be notified when the questionnaire is available. They also plan a public meeting with presentations and an opportunity to ask questions.

While we may not pay their City property taxes, Marble Falls is very aware that residents of surrounding cities spend a lot of money shopping and dining in Marble Falls - which means a lot of sales tax revenue for them. Once more information is available, we can hold a meeting for Meadowlakes citizens to hear about the plans directly from a representative from the Marble Falls Economic Development Corp (EDC).

The City chipper crew will collect and chip brush trimmings every Thursday of each week. Our crews will only collect brush and limbs greater than 1 inch and less than 4 inches in diameter. Brush trimmings less than 1 inch in diameter should be bundled tightly with string or wire for pick up on bulk day by Republic

Items the City can NOT chip: banana trees, palm trees, vines, rose bushes, pampas grass, oleander and other fibrous plants. These items must be bundled as above for pickup by Republic Services.

Please note that residents and property owners who contract or hire a third party to trim shrubs and trees shall require the contractor to dispose of all trimmings. The City will not be responsible for pick up.

Please call the City Hall at (830) 693-2951 to be scheduled for Thursday's City chipper.
