"If your not having fun, its not worth doing"

~ Tommy Bolin

Mayor's Corner

Greetings!
My yard was full of small and medium tree branches yesterday and again today. Instead of "March winds & April showers always bring May flowers", we've had winds, showers and flowers continuously since March, with no end in sight. Please remember that each resident is responsible for keeping the gutters clear in front of and beside your home - all the way to the middle of the street. And please don't just wait for the next storm to wash everything down to your neighbors' areas!
Reminder! Our City Council meetings have moved to the third Tuesday of each month - so we will be meeting next week on Tuesday, May 17th - starting with a workshop at 4:00 PM - and the swearing in of myself as Mayor and Council Members Mike Barry and Jerry Drummond, each for another two year term, at the beginning of the regular meeting at 5:00 PM. We are grateful to the Property Owners Association for moving their regular meeting to the second Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM.
Don't forget to vote in the various run-off elections next week. Meadowlakes is in Precinct 19 and we vote at the Burnet County Courthouse Annex (810 Steve Hawkins Parkway). Polls will be open Monday, May 15th- Friday, May 20th from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM for early voters, and the regular Election Day will be on Tuesday, May 24th from 7:00 AM-7:00 PM (same location). You can vote in the run-off even if you did not vote in the original election. The County Elections office can be reached at 512.715.5288 if you have any questions.
Work is almost completed on 4 of our 5 tennis courts. One of the lighted courts will be set up for pickle ball, and there will be a backboard area for individual practice. We are looking for sponsors for these courts. Contact Bill Raman for more info. Our swimming pool is being readied to open as soon as school is out...which will be before we know it!
If you will be here for the Memorial Day weekend, please mark your calendars to attend the annual POA picnic in Lakeside Park with BBQ from Spyke's for only $5/plate (the POA picks up the other half of the cost). And it isn't too early to start planning for the annual POA Fourth of July Parade - which will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 4th.

Lawn Care and Depositing of Yard Clipping and Leaves

With Spring in the air, everyone is beginning to work in their yards. We would like to remind residents of a few things related to lawn care.  In the past, we have had many occurrences where residents and/or lawn care providers blow lawn trimmings and/or leaves into the streets, as well as dumping leaves and lawn trimmings on vacant lots. This practice causes unsightly curb appeal as well as damaging the City's equipment used in mowing the vacant lots. We would like to remind you of the following:
  • Depositing of lawn clippings, shrubbery trimmings, yard residue, or other litter on the streets, gutter or on vacant lots is prohibited. Please make certain that you or your lawn care service remembers to blow or sweep up any debris in the street.
  • If you use a lawn care service they are responsible for disposal of all lawn care clippings, leaves and/or trimmings.
  • No out of City generated clippings, leaves and/or trimmings can be disposed within the City.
  • Both the resident and the lawn care service provider are subject to a citation for violation of these restrictions.
  • Ordinance 130.02 states "Depositing or accumulation of trash and litter is prohibited" and further states that "A person commits an offense if such person intentionally, knowingly or recklessly deposits trash (as defined in 130.02A), including leaves, on any street, gutter, other lot, private or public property"
We would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping keep Meadowlakes a beautiful place. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact us at City Hall at 830-693-2951.

Positive Rabies Alert

Recently there has been a positive case of rabies from a bat found in the Meadowlakes community. If you find a bat that is active by day or is found in a place where bats are not usually seen like in your home or on your lawn, it might be rabid. A bat that is unable to fly and is easily approached could very well be sick. Just looking at a bat, you cannot tell if it has rabies. Rabies can only be confirmed in a laboratory. We encourage you to please be aware and be safe! If you have any questions or find a bat please contact the Animal Control (Toll Free) 877-816-8136.
