MAYOR'S CORNER

Maybe all the rain is responsible, but when a Northland Cable repairman opened a cable box on Turkey Run a few days ago, he found a rattlesnake inside...alive and well...I'm pretty sure it won't be bothering anyone any longer, but you might take this as a warning before you start pulling weeds or digging in your flower beds.
Now is the time to order commemorative bricks to honor Meadowlakes residents or Meadowlakes family members who served or are currently serving our country in any of the five U.S. Armed Forces. The first order will be placed the first week of April so that the bricks can be received and installed in time for Memorial Day. Each brick will be 8" x 8" x 2 1/4" and will show the honoree's name, branch of service, the motto of that branch and the period of service. Contact Debbie Holley or Evan Cutchin at City Hall to fill out the form and make a payment of $29.50 per brick.
Clearly, some residents are not aware that any golf cart driven on city streets or the golf course must have a licensed driver either behind the wheel or sitting next to an unlicensed driver. Sunday evening around 7:45 PM, I stopped a very polite trio of obviously under-aged boys to let them know they were violating our ordinances. The golf cart they were driving also did not have a Meadowlakes sticker, though they had the sticker in the cart. These rules apply to golf course cart paths, too. Traffic has picked up in Meadowlakes, and speed limits are not always followed, so please keep your kids safe!
The Pro Shop is being repainted inside - maybe for the first time ever. In the process, our guys discovered why the AC didn't seem to work in that building. At some time in the past, someone (we'll never know who) decided to plug all of the AC vents in the ceiling with that white stuff you see in AC filters...essentially eliminating air flow. Should be a lot cooler in there this summer!
Tennis court resurfacing is underway, though the recent rains delayed the process. One of the courts will be converted into pickle-ball courts. Can't wait to see that game played! I gather it is a cross between badminton, ping pong, and tennis, and you can get 4 pickle-ball courts on one tennis court.

VETERAN'S MEMORIAL UPDATE

At the POA Meeting that was held on February 16th, the Board voted to start a program that allows members of the Association to honor one or more family members who currently serve or have served in the United States Armed Forces by placing a Memorial Brick in designated sections of the Park.
The 8"x 8"x 21/4" Bricks will have the Honoree Name, Branch of Service, its Motto and Duration served as shown below. Colors may be as shown or slightly different to provide contrast for the final design.
Actual cost of each brick is $29.50 each, payable in advance. Shipping is free in quantities of 10 or more and the POA will bear the associated installation cost. The program will run in phases through December 2016 or longer but we encourage your early participation. We plan to set the first batch by Memorial Day May 30, 2016. I intend to buy several myself.
Should you wish to participate, see Debbie Holley at the POA office, 177 Broadmoor St, with the necessary information and $29.50 cash or check for each Brick you wish placed in the park.
The POA looks forward to and thanks you for your participation in advance.
Joe Summers, POA President

Lunch with an Author at the Marble Falls Public Library

Come to the Marble Falls Public Library to hear award winning author Karen Witemeyer at the Lunch with an Author program, Friday, March 18 at 11:30 AM. Karen will talk about her book, "A Worthy Pursuit". She is the author of 12 books, so far.
"After growing up in California, Karen moved to Texas to attend Abilene Christian University where she earned bachelor and master's degrees in Psychology. It was also there that she met and married her own Texas hero. He roped her in good, for she has lived in Texas ever since. In fact, she fell so in love with this rugged land of sweeping sunsets and enduring pioneer spirit, that she incorporates it into the pages of her novels, setting her stories in the small towns of a state that burgeoned into greatness in the mid- to late1800s. A life-long bookworm, Karen is living her dream by writing novels. Her books have consistently hit bestseller lists and have garnered awards such as the ACFW Carol Award, the Holt Medallion, and the Inspirational Reader's Choice Award. In addition, she is a multiple RITA and National Reader's Choice finalist. Karen is also a sought-after speaker for national writing conferences and regional workshops." From karenwitemeyer.com
"A Worthy Pursuit" will be available for purchase at the program and for checkout in the library. The program is free, but donations are welcome. Reservations are required and seating is limited. Please make your reservation in person at the Marble Falls Public Library, 101 Main, Marble Falls, or by calling (830) - 693 - 3023.
