"When you finally let go of the past
something better comes along"

MAYOR'S CORNER
Greetings!

We had a good crowd at the City Council meeting yesterday evening. Our auditors were there and once again, the City received a clean audit for the fiscal year that ended 9/30/2015. We also heard from the Public Safety Committee regarding the pros and cons of Meadowlakes establishing its own police department. Thanks goes to Bob Brown, who chaired the committee, plus long-time resident Camille Sweigart, Jerry Drummond (a City Councilmember) and Gerry Mason (on the POA Board) for gathering information about other cities our size and our future needs as Meadowlakes continues to grow and to get younger as more young families recognize the benefits of living in our unique community. Safety is an important consideration for those families.
On Monday, I attended the PEC groundbreaking for its new service center which will be on the north side of Marble Falls - on the west side of Hwy 281 just south of that wonderful old abandoned two-story house that used to be surrounded by bluebonnets at this time of year. I haven't seen any there this year.  Below is the picture I picked up at the event is to give you some idea of how beautiful the building will be. PEC will also have a huge garage and workshop on the property. Completion is targeted for the summer of 2017...which I'm guessing will be long before the new HEB is finished - maybe before it is even started, since the new Bealls will have to be finished before they can start building the new HEB. Lots going on around here!
My dog did NOT like the thunderstorms Tuesday morning, and she refused to walk even if it was just sprinkling...we may not get out much the next few days. I just hope this won't be the year Meadowlakes get a big hail storm. I've lived here since January 2007, and we've had a major hail event every few years - I've been through two so far. Golfers were not discouraged Tuesday - they were out on the course just a couple of hours after the sun came out. Remember you can call the Meadowlakes Restaurant (830-693-4467) and either get excellent meals to go or eat there and not even have to leave the neighborhood.

The Capital Improvement and Long-Range Planning Committee is currently meeting and would like any resident input regarding possible capital expenditures and long-range planning needs for the City. We need your suggestions and ideas regarding the golf course and pro shop, tennis courts, parks, other recreational ideas, physical needs of City-owned buildings, and water and sewer. Please email your thoughts to Debbie Carter: dcarter@meadowlakestexas.org
by April 1, 2016 or call her at the City Hall 830-693-6840

This is your City and it's future is up to you!

VETERAN'S MEMORIAL UPDATE

At the POA Meeting that was held on February 16th, the Board voted to start a program that allows members of the Association to honor one or more family members who currently serve or have served in the United States Armed Forces
by placing a Memorial Brick in designated sections of the Park.
The 8"x 8"x 21/4" Bricks will have the Honoree Name, Branch of Service, its Motto and Duration served as shown below. Colors may be as shown or slightly different to provide contrast for the final design.
Actual cost of each brick is $29.50 each, payable in advance. Shipping is free in quantities of 10 or more and the POA will bear the associated installation cost. The program will run in phases through December 2016 or longer but we encourage your early participation. We plan to set the first batch by Memorial Day
May 30, 2016. I intend to buy several myself.
Should you wish to participate, see Debbie Holley at the POA office, 177 Broadmoor St, with the necessary information and $29.50 cash or check for each Brick you wish placed in the park.
The POA looks forward to and thanks you for your participation in advance.

Joe Summers, POA President

SPRING BREAK PRECAUTIONS
relax_pool.jpg

Marble Falls students will be out of school for Spring Break during the week of March 14th - March 18th.  Families that may be planning to head out of town or go to the beach however, there are things you should know before you walk out the door.

GET HELP FROM NEIGHBORS

Many people will leave home for at least a few days next week. Before you go out of town, we want to remind you of some things you should do beforehand.

SOCIAL MEDIA CONCERNS

Think twice before publishing all those family photos on social media. Believe it or not, that helps thieves plan their "spring break" into your home.

WATCH THE SURF

Many people may be going to the beach. Beach safety officials say if you run into high surf this year, remember, the waves can be dangerously alluring to children. When waves break real close to the beach, it can cause children to venture too far out. They get knocked over, then the back rush of that wave going back to sea can actually pull them under the next incoming wave, which is very dangerous, especially if parents aren't paying attention to their children or they're preoccupied with another child."

Authorities want you to enjoy spring break, but a make it a safe one, too.

CHECKLIST

Here's a checklist that could give you some peace of mind:
  • Be sure to lock all your windows and doors, including pet doors
  • If you have windows where people can see in to your house, close the curtain
  • If you live in an area where burglary is a real concern you might want to looking into timers so a lamp or two turns on at night - and off during the day
  • If you've got a spare key hidden somewhere outside your house, you may want to remove it
  • Consider having someone keep an eye on your house when you are gone
  • Tell your credit card company you are going to be using the card away from home, so they won't assume the card was stolen and refuse the charge
  • Hold all your mail and newspapers - backed up mail indicates no one is home
  • Make sure the proper people know how to get in touch with you if they need to
  • Don't broadcast you're going to be away from home on social media, and wait until you get home to post pictures if you can

  • Have a wonderful and safe Spring Break!
Lunch with an Author at the Marble Falls Public Library

Come to the Marble Falls Public Library to hear award winning author Karen Witemeyer at the Lunch with an Author program, Friday, March 18 at 11:30 AM. Karen will talk about her book, "A Worthy Pursuit". She is the author of 12 books, so far.

"After growing up in California, Karen moved to Texas to attend Abilene Christian University where she earned bachelor and master's degrees in Psychology. It was also there that she met and married her own Texas hero. He roped her in good, for she has lived in Texas ever since. In fact, she fell so in love with this rugged land of sweeping sunsets and enduring pioneer spirit, that she incorporates it into the pages of her novels, setting her stories in the small towns of a state that burgeoned into greatness in the mid- to late1800s. A life-long bookworm, Karen is living her dream by writing novels. Her books have consistently hit bestseller lists and have garnered awards such as the ACFW Carol Award, the Holt Medallion, and the Inspirational Reader's Choice Award. In addition, she is a multiple RITA and National Reader's Choice finalist. Karen is also a sought-after speaker for national writing conferences and regional workshops." From karenwitemeyer.com

"A Worthy Pursuit" will be available for purchase at the program and for checkout in the library. The program is free, but donations are welcome. Reservations are required and seating is limited.
