"The quieter you become, the more you can hear"

MAYOR'S CORNER

I'm writing this Tuesday night because the Council has a special called meeting Wednesday, 2/24/16, at 10:00 AM. This particular meeting of the Council was originally scheduled in order to take any necessary action to hold the City election if multiple applications were received for the open positions. As it turned out, the incumbents filed and no one else filed to run against any of us, so the City will save the cost of a full-blown election. I appreciate your confidence, and I know Mike Barry and Jerry Drummond do, too. Now, the Council can vote to cancel the election, thereby limiting our cost to $75, total - instead of a share of the entire Burnet County elections (all cities in Burnet County plus County officials).
Since we are holding the meeting, we added a few things to the agenda, including review of the City Manager's job performance and renewal of his contract, and other items from our regular February meeting that were postponed for additional information. Also on the agenda are completing review of a stop sign on Columbine at Quail, possible rules for Council meetings, an agreement with Burnet County to assist us with paving projects, repairs to the tennis courts, January's financial results of restaurant and golf operations, and speeding up paying the POA's loan to the City (it was used to build a new water storage tank).
The PEC groundbreaking for their new regional facility will be at 2:00 PM on March 7th - just north of Marble Falls - on the west side of 281 near Resource Parkway . I'm sure details will be in local newspapers. At the monthly PEC Board meeting on Feb. 23rd, the Board voted to offer savings (probably beginning in June) to members who switch to an "e-bill" instead of a mailed paper bill (reducing those members' bills by $1.00/month) and to any who use both the "e-bill" and auto-pay via bank draft, a total savings of $2.50/month. No additional savings for auto-paying with a credit card. Details will come to you from PEC soon.

VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK UPDATE

At the Meadowlakes Property Owners Association (POA) Meeting on February 16th, the Board voted to start a program that allows members of the Association to honor one or more family members who currently serve or have served in the United States Armed Forces by placing a Memorial Brick in designated sections of the Park.
The 8"x 8"x 21/4" Bricks will have the Honoree Name, Branch of Service, its Motto and Duration served as shown below. Colors may be as shown or slightly different to provide contrast for the final design.
Actual cost of each brick is $29.50 each, payable in advance. Shipping is free in quantities of 10 or more and the POA will bear the associated installation cost. The program will run in phases through December 2016 or longer but we encourage your early participation. We plan to set the first batch by Memorial Day May 30, 2016. I intend to buy several myself. Should you wish to participate, see Debbie Holley at the POA office, 177 Broadmoor St, with the necessary information and $29.50 cash or check for each Brick you wish placed in the park. The POA looks forward to and thanks you for your participation in advance. Joe Summers, POA President

Lunch with an Author at the Marble Falls Public Library

Come to the Marble Falls Public Library to hear award winning author Karen Witemeyer at the Lunch with an Author program, Friday, March 18 at 11:30 AM. Karen will talk about her book, "A Worthy Pursuit". She is the author of 12 books, so far.
"After growing up in California, Karen moved to Texas to attend Abilene Christian University where she earned bachelor and master's degrees in Psychology. It was also there that she met and married her own Texas hero. He roped her in good, for she has lived in Texas ever since. In fact, she fell so in love with this rugged land of sweeping sunsets and enduring pioneer spirit, that she incorporates it into the pages of her novels, setting her stories in the small towns of a state that burgeoned into greatness in the mid- to late1800s. A life-long bookworm, Karen is living her dream by writing novels. Her books have consistently hit bestseller lists and have garnered awards such as the ACFW Carol Award, the Holt Medallion, and the Inspirational Reader's Choice Award. In addition, she is a multiple RITA and National Reader's Choice finalist. Karen is also a sought-after speaker for national writing conferences and regional workshops." From karenwitemeyer.com
"A Worthy Pursuit" will be available for purchase at the program and for checkout in the library. The program is free, but donations are welcome. Reservations are required and seating is limited. Please make your reservation in person at the Marble Falls Public Library, 101 Main, Marble Falls, or by calling (830) - 693 - 3023.
