MAYOR'S CORNER
| |
During the City Council meeting Tuesday evening, the employment agreement for our excellent City Manager, Johnnie Thompson, was extended for another two-year term. He has been a Meadowlakes employee from the early days - first with the Municipal Utility District (MUD) and then as our City Manager. He literally knows where the pipes and lines are buried.
Johnnie and I met with our regional PEC folks last week. We talked about the various options for installing street lights in Meadowlakes. The PEC's lights are "dark sky" compliant. Our cost - just for their most basic model light would be at least $5,000 each, and that does not include the full installation cost. PEC would handle the part related to laying the power line and connecting the lights with an existing meter, and the city would have to do the rest. Lights would have to be near existing meters - otherwise, a lot of digging (in our yards and/or streets) would be required to get from a meter (each serving up to four homes) to a desirable light location. Depending on the brightness desired, the monthly charge would be either $10 or $23 PER LIGHT. As you can see, adding lights to an existing neighborhood is not easy or cheap - and probably not in the cards for Meadowlakes at this time.

MARBLE FALLS PUBLIC LIBRARY
| | Lunch with an Author at the Marble Falls Public Library
While February has long been a month associated with romantic relationships, most people would agree that all relationships could use a little help. Dr. Gordon T. Smith will speak on this topic at the upcoming Lunch with an Author Program at the Marble Falls Public Library on Friday, February 12, at 11:30 AM. His book, "When the Blindfold Falls Off", offers helpful advice about keeping and building relationships. Dr. Smith has served for 21 years as the director of pastoral Care and Counseling at the Riverbend Church of Austin, Texas. He currently lives in the Hill Country area and continues to lead relationship seminars and grief support groups. "When the Blindfold Falls Off" will be available for purchase at the program and for checkout in the library. The program is free, but donations are welcome. Reservations are required and seating is limited. Please make your reservation in person at the Marble Falls Public Library, 101 Main, Marble Falls, or by calling (830) 693-3023. For information on upcoming programs, please visit the calendar page at www.MarbleFallsLibrary.org

MEMORIAL PARK DEDICATION CEREMONY
| |
We are completing the final touches to the Memorial Park at Meadowlakes Drive and Fairway. The bronze inscription and military service emblems were placed on the monument. We have a small amount of decorative rock work remaining, and will be placing some seating under the pergola and LED lighting along the pathways and around the circle. We invite you to the dedication ceremony of the memorial park.
The ceremony will begin at 3:30 PM on Saturday, February 13th, at the Memorial Park. We would like the ceremony to be a great beginning for the memorial, so come on out to help honor our military men and women.
