"Never believe you are above or below anyone. Keep a humble spirit"

~Bendon Burchard
MAYOR'S CORNER
Greetings!

The older I get, the faster time flies! My baby girl will be turning 50 this coming Saturday. How can that be???? P.S. Don't tell her I told you...
The City frequently gets questions about our lack of street lights. After the sun sets, it is really, REALLY dark in here. Homeowners frequently install their own porch lights and small, not very bright pole lamps and maybe the pathway lights that are solar powered. I have a lot of those. But there are no lights on street signs, so someone not familiar with our neighborhood might have a difficult time finding a particular address after dark.
For whatever reason - to save money, better stargazing, whatever - the original developers did not bury lines or prepare in any way for street lights. Anything we do will be expensive, because I'm pretty sure we don't want our neighborhood to look like Avenue N with the towering poles, sagging wires and orangey lights a block apart. To find out what our options might be before we even think about surveying our residents, we will be meeting with PEC very soon. I'll keep you informed!
We are still looking for volunteers for our new Capital Improvements Committee, chaired by David Baker, but it will begin to move forward very soon. The Public Safety Committee is well underway. The outcome of both will be used to assist the Council in preparing the City budget that will take effect October 1, 2016. I know that seems like a long time off, but we all know time flies! The City Council will start working on that budget not long after the election in late May. The City has always adopted a detailed budget for each fiscal year, but it is time we looked farther ahead - at least 3 to 5 years.
The fabulous January weather, which seems to be spilling over into February, has made it possible for golfers to be on our Hidden Falls course just about every day, including the Marble Falls High School girls and boys golf teams. I can easily spot them...almost no one else walks and carries their clubs! One of these days I hope to have time to take up golf.

MARBLE FALLS PUBLIC LIBRARY
Lunch with an Author at the Marble Falls Public Library

While February has long been a month associated with romantic relationships, most people would agree that all relationships could use a little help. Dr. Gordon T. Smith will speak on this topic at the upcoming Lunch with an Author Program at the Marble Falls Public Library on Friday, February 12, at 11:30 AM.
His book, "When the Blindfold Falls Off", offers helpful advice about keeping and building relationships.
Dr. Smith has served for 21 years as the director of pastoral Care and Counseling at the Riverbend Church of Austin, Texas. He currently lives in the Hill Country area and continues to lead relationship seminars and grief support groups.

"When the Blindfold Falls Off" will be available for purchase at the program and for checkout in the library. The program is free, but donations are welcome. Reservations are required and seating is limited. Please make your reservation in person at the Marble Falls Public Library, 101 Main, Marble Falls, or by calling (830) 693-3023. MEMORIAL PARK DEDICATION CEREMONY
memorial_day12.jpg
We are completing the final touches to the Memorial Park at Meadowlakes Drive and Fairway. The bronze inscription and military service emblems were placed on the monument yesterday. We have a small amount of decorative rock work remaining, and will be placing some seating under the pergola and LED lighting along the pathways and around the circle. We invite you to the dedication ceremony of the memorial park.
The ceremony will begin at 3:30 PM on Saturday, February 13th, at the Memorial Park. We would like the ceremony to be a great beginning for the memorial, so come on out to help honor our military men and women.
COMMUNITY GARDEN

It's about that time again! The City of Meadowlakes welcomes our residents to be apart of our Community Garden located on Mahan Street. If you would like to participate in the Community garden to provide yourself with fresh products and plants as well as satisfying labor, neighborhood improvement, sense of community and connection to the environment, please stop by the City Hall to sign up. If you would like more information about the Community Garden please contact Jack Tibbits at 830-798-1626.

AVENUE N DETOUR PLAN

The City of Marble Falls will be starting much needed improvements to a section of Avenue N between Broadway and FM1431. This will be scheduled from February 2016 through July 2016. Improvements will include rerouting that section to a new intersection at Bluebonnet and FM1431. During the 6 month construction period, northbound traffic will be detoured to Avenue L and Avenue Q. Below is a map of the future construction that will be taking place. You can also visit this link to get more information from the City of Marble Falls

KISSING BUGS

Kissing Bugs have been spotted in the Meadowlakes community. If you so happen to come across these critters
Please do not touch them with your bare hands! The T. cruzi parasite occurs in the feces of kissing bugs, and their bodies may be contaminated. A glove or small plastic bag may be used to catch the bug to avoid direct contact with the bug. The bug may be stored in a sealed plastic bag, in a vial, or other small container. All surfaces with which the bug came into contact should be thoroughly cleaned with a bleach solution. We encourage our Meadowlakes residents to please be aware of your surroundings, children and pets!! Kissing bugs can be recognized by their 'cone-shaped' head, thin antennae, and thin legs. All of the U.S. species are mainly black or very dark brown, with red, orange or yellow 'stripes' around the edge. Their bites are generally not painful (since their goal is to bite and feed without being detected), and they are mainly active at dusk or night. Some of the most common species in Texas are shown here.

If you would like more information on these Kissing Bugs you can visit this website http://kissingbug.tamu.edu/

BRUSH PICK UP
We would like to remind our residents to please call the City Hall to be put on the weekly brush pickup list and to review the guidelines for the items that can and cannot be picked up. We are seeing more limbs that are being put out for us to chip that are smaller or larger than the required diameter per our ordinance. A door hanger will be left at any home that has items that do not meet the requirements. We encourage you to please not leave piles of brush out for pickup until the day before the scheduled pickup.

Thank you- Public Works Dept
