MAYOR'S CORNER
| |
Avenue N will be closing between Broadway and Hwy 1431 very soon. Since we'll be rerouted via Broadway to either Avenue Q (if heading west) or Avenue L (if heading east), I was happy to discover that Marble Falls has repaved the previously very rough road at the intersection of Ave. Q and Ninth Street. There is a stop light at Ave. Q & 1431, but no light at Ave. L & 1431. Please be careful if you are trying to turn left/west from Ave. L!
At last week's meeting of the PEC Board of Directors, a majority of the directors voted to release the names and addresses of PEC members who voted in any of the past 3 PEC Board elections - upon request by any candidate. They agreed that PEC members who do not wish to have their names and addresses released will be able to request that their info be withheld. All members will still receive candidate information directly from PEC, but members can request that their own info be withheld if candidates request voter info to facilitate their campaigning. Usually, only 20,000 of the more than 220,000 PEC members actually take the time to vote. I expect a greater percentage of Meadowlakes voters actually VOTE.
After the meeting, I asked for more information about how individual members who have voted in the past can go about barring the release of their names and addresses. The following info was provided by Jan Granberg, PEC's Director of Member Services.
Members who wish to be excluded from the candidates' contact list may opt-out by providing their account number and name as it appears on the bill to any Member Services Agent. The account will be noted as requested, and the member will be excluded from current and future candidate member lists until the member requests otherwise. The following options are available for members to submit an opt-out request:
- Call 1-888-554-4732, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.
- Visit any PEC office, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- Submit a request online at www.pec.coop
- Mail a written request to: Pedernales Electric Cooperative, P.O. Box 1, Johnson City, Texas 78636
We encourage members to visit our website for information about the Board of Directors and any future announcements regarding the June 2016 Annual Meeting and election. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

KISSING BUGS
| |
Kissing Bugs have been spotted in the Meadowlakes community. If you so happen to come across these critters Please do not ever touch them with your bare hands! The T. cruzi parasite occurs in the feces of kissing bugs, and their bodies may be contaminated. A glove or small plastic bag may be used to catch the bug to avoid direct contact with the bug. The bug may be stored in a sealed plastic bag, in a vial, or other small container. All surfaces with which the bug came into contact should be thoroughly cleaned with a bleach solution. We encourage our Meadowlakes residents to please be aware of your surroundings, children and pets!! Kissing bugs can be recognized by their 'cone-shaped' head, thin antennae, and thin legs. All of the U.S. species are mainly black or very dark brown, with red, orange or yellow 'stripes' around the edge. Their bites are generally not painful (since their goal is to bite and feed without being detected), and they are mainly active at dusk or night. Some of the most common species in Texas are shown here.

AVENUE N DETOUR PLAN
| |
The City of Marble Falls will be starting much needed improvements to a section of Avenue N between Broadway and FM1431. This will be scheduled from February 2016 through July 2016. Improvements will include rerouting that section to a new intersection at Bluebonnet and FM1431. During the 6 month construction period, northbound traffic will be detoured to Avenue L and Avenue Q. Below is a map of the future construction that will be taking place. You can also visit this link to get more information from the City of Marble Falls

We would like to remind our residents to please call the City Hall to be put on the weekly brush pickup list and to review the guidelines for the items that can and cannot be picked up. We are seeing more limbs that are being put out for us to chip that are smaller or larger than the required diameter per our ordinance. A door hanger will be left at any home that has items that do not meet the requirements. We encourage you to please not leave piles of brush out for pickup until the day before the scheduled pickup.
Thank you- Public Works Dept

MARBLE FALLS PUBLIC LIBRARY
| | Lunch with an Author at the Marble Falls Public Library While February has long been a month associated with romantic relationships, most people would agree that all relationships could use a little help. Dr. Gordon T. Smith will speak on this topic at the upcoming Lunch with an Author Program at the Marble Falls Public Library on Friday, February 12, at 11:30 AM. His book, "When the Blindfold Falls Off", offers helpful advice about keeping and building relationships. Dr. Smith has served for 21 years as the director of pastoral Care and Counseling at the Riverbend Church of Austin, Texas. He currently lives in the Hill Country area and continues to lead relationship seminars and grief support groups. "When the Blindfold Falls Off" will be available for purchase at the program and for checkout in the library. The program is free, but donations are welcome. Reservations are required and seating is limited. Please make your reservation in person at the Marble Falls Public Library, 101 Main, Marble Falls, or by calling (830) 693-3023. For information on upcoming programs, please visit the calendar page at www.MarbleFallsLibrary.org. |
