MAYOR'S CORNER
| |
At our City Council Meeting last week, it was decided to establish two citizens' committees to help us prepare for the future. The Public Safety Committee will be chaired by Bob Brown and will be charged with making suggestions to improve the safety of our city, especially our streets.
The Capital Improvement and Long-Range Planning Committee, chaired by David Baker, will be charged with the responsibility of formulating plans for needed capital improvements in three areas of the city: (1) golf course and pro-shop, (2) other recreational areas (swimming pool, tennis courts, other), and (3) city-owned buildings (restaurant, city hall). Additionally, the committee will recommend a long-range (10 year) plan for any desired and necessary water and sewer upgrades, as well as adjustments, if any, that need to be made to city codes, etc.
Your city needs you to volunteer to serve on these committees. If you have a little extra time over the next few months, please contact Debbie Carter with the City of Meadowlakes at [email protected]. If you would like to ask further questions regarding the committee prior to committing to serve, please contact me at [email protected].
A frequently asked question is "Why don't we have street lights?" When the original developers laid out our city, they decided lights would not be necessary, so they did not bury any electrical lines to facilitate the installation of lights at that time. To install lights now would be cost-prohibitive. Even solar lights could cost as much as $1,000 each. There are a LOT of street corners in Meadowlakes, so the installation of lights would be cost-prohibitive. A lot of residents have lights in their yards, but they do not provide enough light to illuminate streets. For this reason, it is imperative that anyone walking or riding a bicycle or in a golf cart after sunset or before sunrise have their own lights. Actually, I also hear from citizens who do not want any more lights, which interfere with star gazing.
Interesting "vandalism" this past weekend: someone thought the flag for the fifth hole would be better located just inside the fence in my backyard flower bed...probably the same person thought it might be helpful to take all of the little paper cups out of the dispenser near the tee box for the seventh hole and lay them about every 5 or 10 feet in a relatively straight line from the tee box almost to the 7th green.
The Marble Falls Council voted Tuesday night to accept the low bid of $662,516 to straighten out Ave. N between Broadway and Hwy 1431. Now they are saying it may take five months.

We would like to remind our residents to please call the City Hall to be put on the weekly brush pickup list and to review the guidelines for the items that can and cannot be picked up. We are seeing more limbs that are being put out for us to chip that are smaller or larger than the required diameter per our ordinance. A door hanger will be left at any home that has items that do not meet the requirements. We encourage you to please not leave piles of brush out for pickup until the day before the scheduled pickup.
Thank you- Public Works Dept
