"The joy of brightening other lives, bearing each others burdens, easing other's loads and supplanting empty hearts and lives with generous gifts becomes for us the magic of Christmas."

~ W.C. Jones

MAYOR'S CORNER
Greetings!

Even though fireworks are illegal within the city limits of both Meadowlakes and Marble Falls, we may hear some between Christmas and New Year's Eve. Our pets - especially dogs - really do not like fireworks! If a door is left ajar, your dog may make a run for it and get lost in the neighborhood. Please (1) do not shoot off fireworks, and (2) be sure your dog is in safe, quiet, loving surroundings!

Last week, I found a sweet and very large English Bulldog wandering down Deer Lick. I managed to get him to my house, and my Rhodesian Ridgeback, Sugar, explained the house rules to him. Our Meadowlakes animal control officer was in Austin, so Bubba (as I later learned was his name) just hung with us until his owner returned home and turned in a Missing Dog report. Please be sure your animals are registered and wearing an ID tag at all times. That was a challenge with Bubba since his head was smaller than his neck.

The new Meadowlakes Leaf Removal Machine (my name for it) works wonderfully! Most of the pecan trees have now lost all of their leaves, and those leaves have been sucked up and turned into mulch. A lot of that mulch can be used by the City. Our wonderful City employees wore the necessary ear protection while operating the extraordinarily loud equipment. They will make at least one other pass throughout the neighborhood as the rest of the trees lose their leaves. You need to rake your leaves to within a few feet of the curb if they are to be picked up - but NOT in the gutters! And ONLY leaves can be picked up - no sticks!

Another thing that is illegal is tearing up the greens - or anything else - on our golf course. Recently, a young male thought it would be fun to ride his hover board on the greens - which resulted in ruts that may interfere with putting. He managed to evade capture, but if there is a hover board in your house, please be sure the riders know to stay OFF of all parts of the golf course! And they must obey all traffic rules!!!

Holiday Vandalism: Friday night, December 18, after 10:00 PM, someone decided it would be fun to squirt ketchup on a resident's porch, windows and holiday décor.  This particular front porch area was very dark at that time and is set back from the street, so the vandals had to be very bold to get so close to the home.  I'm sure Whataburger did not intend for its ketchup packets to be used in this way.  Unfortunately, our usually safe and quiet little city has experienced vandalism in varying degrees during holidays in the past.  Please be vigilant - and be sure to lock the doors on vehicles that are not inside your garage!

MILITARY MEMORIAL MONUMENT
memorial_day.jpg
The Meadowlakes POA is in process of setting up the Military Memorial Monument. You will notice as you enter into Meadowlakes on the left side of Meadowlakes Dr. The memorial monument will be a granite stone monolith from our area, and bronze plaques commemorating the five military services, with bronze inscription so they will always be legible on the stone. In response to several residents offers to help, we have created an account for donations to the memorial. If you wish to donate to the memorial, please come by the City Hall. Any of the young ladies in the office can accept donations and provide you with a receipt of donation. We are working to control the costs of the memorial and the landscaping, any donations will help. If you have any questions please contact James Woods at jrwpdw@nctv.com
