"Everything in life is temporary, if things are going good, enjoy it, if things are going bad, don't worry, it wont last forever either."

MAYOR'S CORNER
Greetings!

The City Council meeting last night included the annual report from Keith Conrad, Republic Waste's manager for this area. Meadowlakes is the best by far of all of their clients at recycling - we average four (4) tons of recycling every other week. Due to recent changes, it is no longer necessary to sort items in the recycling bins - and you can mix paper with all types of plastic (not just 1's and 2's) - but still not plastic bags...and still no glass, though they are looking into being able to pick up glass. When they are picking up bulk items every other week, our average is 15 tons (1 ½ truckloads). Way to go, Meadowlakes residents!
Street sweeping has been delayed by the wetness of the leaves, but the sweeper should be coming by soon - hopefully today or tomorrow.
The Council approved adding stop signs on Columbine at Quail - this will be a 3-way stop as soon as the signs are in place. Apparently, this was in the original traffic control plan but somehow was overlooked. Please note: the maximum speed allowed throughout Meadowlakes is 25 MPH (in some places, it is just 20 MPH). This is a reminder that the fact that you are running late doesn't mean it is OK to ignore speed limits! Or roll through stop signs. Safety first!
Our city continues to grow and to get updated. Right now, there are 14 new homes approved for or already under construction and another six being remodeled.
There will be lots of parties and special groups at the Meadowlakes Restaurant for the rest of this year, but there are always tables available for regular diners in a separate area. Even if the parking lot looks full, you can bring the family in for an excellent meal. There is a special kids menu (everything from chicken tenders to peanut butter sandwiches), and Santa left some toys and treats for the kids!

The Hill Country Community Band returns for their second Christmas concert at the library after the success of the 2014 open house and concert. When asked what she thought of last year's concert, Friends of the Marble Falls Public Library Board president, Dr. Jane Knapik, said, "The word 'exhilarating' comes to mind. The members of the band are so happy to be performing. The library is a community gathering place and we want everyone to come."
Get into the Christmas spirit with carols and concert pieces that will bring joy and delight to listeners of all ages.

 Saturday, December 19th
2nd annual Feed The Hungry Golf Classic
Due to all the rain, the golf tournament had to be rescheduled. Please make an effort to come out to Hidden Falls Golf Club to support the Marble Falls Mission. This is the one large benefit they do once a year to bring in money to support the Mission. If you do not play golf, we have raffle tickets for $10.00 and many silent auction items as well. Come join in the fun! We will be in need of volunteers the entire day. Schedules will start at 9:30A.M. at the club and run through out the day. They will also need people at the church to help set up, serve and clean up after. If you are only available for a short time that is great too, any little bit helps! For more information please contact Jeanine Osborne at (512) 914-0002

Did you know that there are clubs, groups and leagues that have special events going on daily at the club?

YARD SIGNS
vote
Reminder that as you support your favorite political candidates, yard signs must be on your property and are not allowed within the city easement.  Per ordinance 22-3 (2) Allowed Signs. Political signs are allowed provided they are placed by the owner or occupant of the property and are on the owner or occupant's land only.  In addition, Political signs may not be erected until one day after the filing deadline for that position and shall be removed within ten days following the concerned election.

Placing signs at least 10 feet from the curb is a good general guideline to avoid being in the city right of way.  The full ordinance can be viewed at http://www.meadowlakestexas.org  Thank you for your cooperation.

Thanks!

SAFETY TIPS ON THE STREETS
woman-jogging.jpg
Many time-crunched runners find themselves working out at odd hours, before dawn or well into the evening- the same time slots when impaired drivers are often on the road. People may be tired from just waking up, and not as attentive as they should be. Also, in the early morning, especially during the colder months, look out for motorists who have not cleared frost from their windshields; they may not be able to see you clearly. Runners can't help but become easy (if unintended) targets. You can prevent your own gadgetry from contributing to an accident. Don't assume a driver sees you. In fact, imagine that a driver can't see you, and behave accordingly.
Face traffic. It's easier to see, and react to, oncoming cars. And cars will see you more clearly too.
Make room. If traffic gets heavy, or the road narrows, be prepared to move onto the sidewalk or shoulder of the road.
Be seen. Wear high-visibility, brightly colored clothing. When out near or after sunset, reflective materials are a must. (If you don't own reflective clothing, a lightweight reflective vest is a great option.) And use a headlamp or handheld light so you can see where you're going, and drivers can see you. The light should have a bright LED (drivers see blinking red as a hazard).
Unplug your ears. Avoid using iPods or wearing headphones-you need to be able to hear approaching vehicles. If you do use headphones, run with the volume low and just one ear bud in.
Watch the hills. When they crest hills, drivers' vision can suddenly be impaired by factors like sun glare or backdrops.
Watch for early birds and night owls. At odd hours be extra careful. Early in the morning and very late at night, people may be overtired and not as attentive.Take the lead in promoting road safety, not road rage. "Always be courteous and follow traffic regulations to encourage a positive image of runners to the nonrunning public. Acknowledge drivers with a polite wave if they move over to the other side of the road for you. They will feel more inclined to do it again for someone else.

It's pitch black and you're out running. At what distance will a driver spot you? A Runner's World field-test study revealed the best-case scenarios-as well as the worst.
1/2 MILE
Running with a headlamp or handheld light is the smartest way to make yourself visible. The whitish beam is a color that the eye sees clearly at night. And with your motion causing the light to move-the headlamp a little, the handheld a lot-a driver should recognize you as a runner.

1/4 MILE
If you don't feel comfortable wearing a headlamp or holding a flashlight, at least run with a reflective vest or a blinking red light. Drivers won't always identify you as a runner, but they'll have a hard time ignoring your motion. The light should have a bright LED (drivers see blinking red as a hazard), and the reflective material should cover half of the vest.

150 YARDS
A brightly colored jacket or top will help get a driver's attention. Yellowish green or bright orange are your best bets. Reflective panels on the sleeves can allow a driver to better detect your motion.

100 YARDS
At any distance within 100 yards, you put yourself at the mercy of a driver's reaction time. Do yourself a favor and wear clothes and shoes that have some reflective details.

50 FEET
Although a white T-shirt becomes visible before a dark one does, the difference is negligible-especially if a driver is going at a fast clip.

30-40 FEET
You're asking for trouble by running in dark pants and a dark shirt. Drivers won't notice you until they're dangerously close

BULK LEAF COLLECTION PROGRAM
yellow-leaves-tree.jpg
The City of Meadowlakes is very fortunate to have several hundred mature pecan trees, however these beautiful trees produce extremely large volume of leaf foliage every fall. In the past the only method available for disposal of the foliage was either to mulch it during mowing or by raking and bagging the leaves for pickup by the City's solid waste contractor.
The City is proud to announce that we are now offering three bulk leaf pickups in the coming months.
You will find attached, a "Leaf Collection" brochure explaining the collection program in more detail. If you have any questions regarding this program please feel free to contact the Public Works Department at 830-693-2951 between the hours of 8:00A.M. and 4:00P.M. Monday through Friday.

MILITARY MEMORIAL MONUMENT
repotting-flowers.jpg
The Meadowlakes POA is in process of setting up the Military Memorial Monument. You will notice as you enter into Meadowlakes on the left side of Meadowlakes Dr. The memorial monument will be a granite stone monolith from our area, and bronze plaques commemorating the five military services, with bronze inscription so they will always be legible on the stone. In response to several residents offers to help, we have created an account for donations to the memorial. If you wish to donate to the memorial, please come by the City Hall. Any of the young ladies in the office can accept donations and provide you with a receipt of donation. We are working to control the costs of the memorial and the landscaping, any donations will help. If you have any questions please contact James Woods at jrwpdw@nctv.com
