MAYOR'S CORNER
| |
Greetings!
I believe each year passes faster. I moved into Meadowlakes at the end of 2006, so I have now lived here 9 years. That is the longest I've lived in one house in my whole life! I hope I never have to leave this lovely city!
Christmas lights are just starting to go up. I put up most of mine today, but Columbine Street is already pretty well-lit. I need to learn how to make those wire balls covered with sparkly lights. They are as big as basketballs and make quite a statement hanging from the pecan trees, mostly on Columbine Street.
I attended the Marble Falls City Council meeting Tuesday evening because the Economic Development Corp.'s proposed changes to the park area were on the agenda. Unfortunately, they went into closed session for that particular discussion, and I gave up and came home after waiting a half hour. They had already discussed the 8 bids they received to add 50% to the capacity of their wastewater plant. Right now, they are adding a water tank just northeast of the bridge - which is 30% completed. The XL Corp. (I'm guessing at the spelling) is building that tank and also won the bid for the wastewater expansion. They will bring in another crew to start that project in late January, and finish in October 2016. Total cost of the wastewater project will be $2,455,886. I find it odd that they calculate the amount to the last dollar.
The City Manager updated the Council on the status of the CVS building project. The construction part was supposed to have been completed in November, but the contractor voluntarily limited hours at the request of the surgery center on top of that hill. Blasting was a bit disconcerting during surgery, I'm sure. The contractor had asked the City to extend working hours to 7:00 AM-8:00PM. Work on Saturdays (and limited work on Sundays) was approved, and the new target date to complete the construction and parking lot is February 22nd. At that time, CVS will start stocking the store to be ready to open in May of 2016.

OPEN HOUSE & CHRISTMAS CONCERT
| | Come and celebrate the Christmas season with the Marble Falls Public Library at their Open House and Christmas Concert, featuring the Hill Country Community Band, on Friday, December 11, 2015. Refreshments will be served at 3:00 PM in the community room and the concert will start at 4:00 PM in the library.
The event is free! The Hill Country Community Band returns for their second Christmas concert at the library after the success of the 2014 open house and concert. When asked what she thought of last year's concert, Friends of the Marble Falls Public Library Board president, Dr. Jane Knapik, said, "The word 'exhilarating' comes to mind. The members of the band are so happy to be performing. The library is a community gathering place and we want everyone to come." Get into the Christmas spirit with carols and concert pieces that will bring joy and delight to listeners of all ages. To learn more, stop by the library at 101 Main in Marble Falls, visit the website: www.MarbleFallsLibrary.org or call 830-693-3023. |

HIDDEN FALLS GOLF CLUB NEWS
| |
Saturday, December 19th
2nd annual Feed The Hungry Golf Classic
Due to all the rain, the golf tournament had to be rescheduled. Please make an effort to come out to Hidden Falls Golf Club to support the Marble Falls Mission. This is the one large benefit they do once a year to bring in money to support the Mission. If you do not play golf, we have raffle tickets for $10.00 and many silent auction items as well. Come join in the fun! We will be in need of volunteers the entire day. Schedules will start at 9:30A.M. at the club and run through out the day. They will also need people at the church to help set up, serve and clean up after. If you are only available for a short time that is great too, any little bit helps! For more information please contact Jeanine Osborne at (512) 914-0002
Did you know that there are clubs, groups and leagues that have special events going on daily at the club?

FRIENDLY REMINDER
| | It's that time of the year when the "little golden nuggets" have fallen from their trees along the roadsides, driveways, and fence properties. This is just a friendly reminder that when the pecans have fallen they're not free for the taking. Regardless of where the pecans are found, they belong to the owner of that tree. Please ask your fellow neighbors before picking up any pecans to keep the peace in the community.

MILITARY MEMORIAL MONUMENT
| |
The Meadowlakes POA is in process of setting up the Military Memorial Monument. You will notice as you enter into Meadowlakes on the left side of Meadowlakes Dr. The memorial monument will be a granite stone monolith from our area, and bronze plaques commemorating the five military services, with bronze inscription so they will always be legible on the stone. In response to several residents offers to help, we have created an account for donations to the memorial. If you wish to donate to the memorial, please come by the City Hall. Any of the young ladies in the office can accept donations and provide you with a receipt of donation. We are working to control the costs of the memorial and the landscaping, any donations will help. If you have any questions please contact James Woods at jrwpdw@nctv.com

BULK LEAF COLLECTION PROGRAM
| |
The City of Meadowlakes is very fortunate to have several hundred mature pecan trees, however these beautiful trees produce extremely large volume of leaf foliage every fall. In the past the only method available for disposal of the foliage was either to mulch it during mowing or by raking and bagging the leaves for pickup by the City's solid waste contractor.
The City is proud to announce that we are now offering three bulk leaf pickups in the coming months.
You will find attached, a "Leaf Collection" brochure explaining the collection program in more detail. If you have any questions regarding this program please feel free to contact the Public Works Department at 830-693-2951 between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:00PM Monday through Friday.
