"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend."

~ Melody Beattie
MAYOR'S CORNER
Greetings!

I am extremely thankful to live here in Meadowlakes - and to have my daughter Leanne in Austin instead of New York City - and for both of us to be in good health. God is good.
Leanne and I made a quick trip to Kansas City for a dear friend's surprise 75th birthday party. Her biggest surprise was when she saw us there. They moved to Roeland Park, KS many years ago, and their daughter (who is one of my daughter's best friends since birth) and her family live in nearby Leawood, KS. With all of the airline mergers, all flights are completely full - and they've jammed in extra rows of seats. Not a problem for my 5' 2" daughter, but at 5' 7" my knees almost touch the back of the seat in front of me. We won't go into the width issues!
Fall in Kansas is a lot more colorful than in Meadowlakes.   Most of the leaves in our neighborhood seem to turn brown and then turn loose. When the rains stop, the City will begin the leaf pick-up program.
Very soon we'll have lots of wonderful Christmas decorations going up to be ready for the POA's annual decorating contest, though the rain that is forecast for the rest of this week may delay things a bit. I may be prejudiced, but I think Columbine Street is one of the most beautifully decorated streets in our town. The City will have lights at the Meadowlakes Restaurant and at the entrance to the Hidden Falls Golf Course parking area. Oh, and there are a few lights at Marble Falls Lakeside Park - and in Johnson City - and in Austin if you feel like fighting traffic.
The Meadowlakes Restaurant will be closed Thanksgiving Day this year. I ventured into HEB Tuesday - and unfortunately, I forgot a few things so I'll have to go back today. I plan to go VERY EARLY!

BULK LEAF COLLECTION PROGRAM
header_autumn_leaves.jpg
The City of Meadowlakes is very fortunate to have several hundred mature pecan trees, however these beautiful trees produce extremely large volume of leaf foliage every fall. In the past the only method available for disposal of the foliage was either to mulch it during mowing or by raking and bagging the leaves for pickup by the City's solid waste contractor.
The City is proud to announce that we are now offering three bulk leaf pickups in the coming months.
You will find attached, a "Leaf Collection" brochure explaining the collection program in more detail. If you have any questions regarding this program please feel free to contact the Public Works Department at 830-693-2951 between the hours of 8AM - 4PM Monday through Friday.

GOLF CART OPERATORS
There has been several complaints about excessive speeders on golf carts these past few weeks. Please note that all golf cart's must be operated in a safely manner. If you are unsure of our golf cart operations ordinance please see listed below:

1) The operator of the golf cart holds a valid driver's license
(2) The person operating the golf cart is accompanied by an adult holding a valid driver's license.
(3) The conditions exist that meet the combined situation of:
A. Operator is an unlicensed person operating the golf cart during daylight hours
B. Operator is accompanied by a front seat passenger consisting of an adult 21 years or older
C. Meeting a further condition that such qualified adult holds a valid driver's license.
For purposes of this restriction, the term "during daylight hours" is defined as the above operation having wholly occurred within the interval between the time corresponding to 30 minutes before sunrise and the time corresponding to 30 minutes after sunset, local time.
The term "safe manner" means the operation of the golf cart is done in a manner so as to not violate the prohibitions of Rules of the Road contained in V.T.C.A., Transportation Code chs. 541 through 600, save and except those sections that require the installation of safety equipment required for automobiles and other licensed vehicles, save and except golf cart lighting requirements as defined in subsection (c)(2) of this section.
(c) Additional requirements and restrictions shall be in force as follows:
(1) All privately owned golf carts, which operate on streets within the city, are required to display a reflective and numbered decal that shall be affixed to the front and rear of the vehicle, and furthermore, owners are required to affix decals in conspicuous locations which are visible to an observer observing from the front and from the rear of the cart. The decals (2) shall be issued by the city, and affixed by the cart owner to allow unique owner identification of the golf cart when being operated on the streets of Meadowlakes. The effective date of enforcement of this requirement is April 15, 2010, after which time a person commits an offense if the person operates a golf cart on streets within the city without such city-issued decals so affixed. Ownership transfer of carts with existing city-issued decals requires that the new owner register with the city within 30 days of transfer. The city shall design the decal such that persons with normal vision can decipher decal-assigned numbers at a minimum distance of 50 feet during daylight hours.
(2) Golf carts are prohibited from operating during nighttime hours (nighttime hours as hereby defined includes operating within any portion of the time interval commencing 30 minutes after sundown and ending 30 minutes before sunrise, local time), unless the golf cart has in use fully operational golf cart manufacturer's equipped headlamps, tail lamps and brake lamps (or after market lamps of equivalent illumination and functional performance).
(3) Additionally, any nighttime operator of golf carts on streets within the city shall be required to possess a valid driver's license.
(4) Cart shall be configured such that manufacture's standard seating provisions are provided for all intended passengers and when in use, all passengers shall remain continually seated on standard provisioned seats anytime cart is underway.
(Code 2006, § 70.01; Ord. No. 02-07, 4-2-2002; Ord. No. 2009-09, 2-9-2010)
Golf Cart Registration: A fee of $5.00 shall be charged for the issuance or re-issuance of golf cart decals as required by Section 28-20.

HIDDEN FALLS GOLF CLUB NEWS

 Saturday, December 19th
2nd annual Feed The Hungry Golf Classic
Due to all the rain, the golf tournament had to be rescheduled. Please make an effort to come out to Hidden Falls Golf Club to support the Marble Falls Mission. This is the one large benefit they do once a year to bring in money to support the Mission. If you do not play golf, we have raffle tickets for $10.00 and many silent auction items as well. Come join in the fun! We will be in need of volunteers the entire day. Schedules will start at 9:30A.M. at the club and run through out the day. They will also need people at the church to help set up, serve and clean up after. If you are only available for a short time that is great too, any little bit helps! For more information please contact Jeanine Osborne at (512) 914-0002

Did you know that there are clubs, groups and leagues that have special events going on daily at the club?

MILITARY MEMORIAL MONUMENT
repotting-flowers.jpg
The Meadowlakes POA is in process of setting up the Military Memorial Monument. You will notice as you enter into Meadowlakes on the left side of Meadowlakes Dr. The memorial monument will be a granite stone monolith from our area, and bronze plaques commemorating the five military services, with bronze inscription so they will always be legible on the stone. In response to several residents offers to help, we have created an account for donations to the memorial. If you wish to donate to the memorial, please come by the City Hall. Any of the young ladies in the office can accept donations and provide you with a receipt of donation. We are working to control the costs of the memorial and the landscaping, any donations will help. If you have any questions please contact the president over the Meadowlakes POA James Woods at jrwpdw@nctv.com
