"I give thanks...For each new morning with it's light, for rest and shelter of the night, for health and food, for love and friends, for everything thy goodness sends."

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
MAYOR'S CORNER
Greetings!

I turned off my sprinkler system weeks ago when we were first graced with regular rains. Now, my yard looks better than it has in months. I still see sprinklers running in lots of yards in the neighborhood...you may want to check yours and turn it off. I don't think the lawns need extra water right now and you can save on the water bill.
Surprise! Golf cart drivers are subject to all traffic laws! Drivers must have a license, actually on their person, and carts must comply with all traffic laws, including stopping at STOP signs. Monday evening, I stopped a cart that was flying down the green area between Hidden Falls and Augusta before it bounced over the curb and headed my way on Augusta. Four boys were on the cart...the driver said he "left his license at home". Driving a golf cart may seem like a good way to learn to drive a car, but it is legal in Meadowlakes only when there is a licensed driver sitting beside the learner!
Another little known ordinance: It is illegal to park within 30 feet of a STOP or Yield sign. This restriction applies only to the side of the street facing the sign. This ordinance was adopted because having a car parked on the street any closer to the sign blocks the view of oncoming traffic for another driver who is approaching the sign. ALL vehicles must comply with STOP and Yield signs (including golf carts and bicycles).
I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the Legacy Fund's annual dinner and presentation of awards Tuesday evening. Lots of Meadowlakes folks in the audience, and one of them, my friend Marsh Neel, and posthumously, her husband Mike, received the "Excellence as a Non-Profit Leader Award". The brief movie about all the things they have done - and continue to do - for this area was inspiring.
My dear friend, Bessie Jackson, was honored with the first award of the evening as the "Community Volunteer of the Year". When she took the stage for her acceptance speech, after a slide show about her, she immediately burst into a hymn that rocked the rafters and led to standing applause. Other awards went to CASA of the Highland Lakes, named Outstanding Non-Profit, and special recognition went to Baylor Scott & White Health. The overall Philanthropy Award for 2015 went to Belinda and John Kemper. Again, the movie of their contributions to this area over the years was amazing.
You can get a great early Thanksgiving dinner at St. Frederick Baptist Church (on Ave. N between 3rd & 4th Streets) this coming Saturday between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. St. Fred's has been getting ready for at least two weeks, so don't miss it! Just show up and have a wonderful time! Meals are free, but donations are always appreciated.

BULK LEAF COLLECTION PROGRAM
red-fall-leaves-banner.jpg
The City of Meadowlakes is very fortunate to have several hundred mature pecan trees, however these beautiful trees produce extremely large volume of leaf foliage every fall. In the past the only method available for disposal of the foliage was either to mulch it during mowing or by raking and bagging the leaves for pickup by the City's solid waste contractor.
The City is proud to announce that we are now offering three bulk leaf pickups in the coming months.
You will find attached, a "Leaf Collection" brochure explaining the collection program in more detail. If you have any questions regarding this program please feel free to contact the Public Works Department at 830-693-2951 between the hours of 8:00A.M. and 4:00P.M. Monday through Friday.

TRASH, RECYCLE & BULK REMINDER
This is a friendly reminder that during the week of Thanksgiving, collections will be on Saturday, November 28th. Please place your items at the curb for collection by 7:00A.M. If you need any further assistance please contact Republic Services at (830) 693-3513

 Saturday, December 19th
2nd annual Feed The Hungry Golf Classic
Due to all the rain, the golf tournament had to be rescheduled. Please make an effort to come out to Hidden Falls Golf Club to support the Marble Falls Mission. This is the one large benefit they do once a year to bring in money to support the Mission. If you do not play golf, we have raffle tickets for $10.00 and many silent auction items as well. Come join in the fun! We will be in need of volunteers the entire day. Schedules will start at 9:30A.M. at the club and run through out the day. They will also need people at the church to help set up, serve and clean up after. If you are only available for a short time that is great too, any little bit helps! For more information please contact Jeanine Osborne at (512) 914-0002

MILITARY MEMORIAL MONUMENT
repotting-flowers.jpg
The Meadowlakes POA is in process of setting up the Military Memorial Monument. You will notice as you enter into Meadowlakes on the left side of Meadowlakes Dr. The memorial monument will be a granite stone monolith from our area, and bronze plaques commemorating the five military services, with bronze inscription so they will always be legible on the stone. In response to several residents offers to help, we have created an account for donations to the memorial. If you wish to donate to the memorial, please come by the City Hall. Any of the young ladies in the office can accept donations and provide you with a receipt of donation. We are working to control the costs of the memorial and the landscaping, any donations will help. If you have any questions please contact James Woods at jrwpdw@nctv.com
