MAYOR'S CORNER
Greetings!

First, don't go rushing over to Hidden Falls to see the new tile floor in the main dining room until, let's say, Friday. And the curtains won't be re-hung until Monday morning. As on HGTV, everything seems to take just a little bit longer than expected - but I'm sure it will be well worth the wait!

I was glad to get my POA Proxy and Annual Dues bill at the same time - otherwise, I would not have known my lot number. You can send in (or drop off) the check without the lot number, but it was kind of neat to actually know it this time. Guess I never paid attention in the past. I also filled out the Proxy and delivered it to City Hall because I'll have to miss the Annual POA Meeting. I volunteer on Saturday mornings at St. Frederick's Baptist Church on Avenue N - we have an assembly line that puts more than 350 meals into "to go" boxes, and then we deliver them in Marble Falls, Granite Shoals, Cottonwood Shores and Meadowlakes. It is definitely a labor of love, and after doing it for more than 5 years, Saturday just would not seem right without seeing the 25+ families on my route. If you are looking for something worthwhile to do on Saturday mornings, join us!

The POA needs either enough proxies or residents in attendance at the annual meeting in order to have a quorum to allow it to do business, so don't forget to send your proxy to City Hall. If you decide to attend at the last minute, you can always take your proxy back. This year, there are three vacancies and three candidates (Gerry Fair, Joy Marcou and Gerry Mason). After the Annual Meeting, the POA Board will meet to elect officers and assign duties. We will be losing three absolutely excellent people (President David Baker, Secretary Jan Cunningham and Treasurer Dottie Stueckroth), but I'm sure the new volunteers will quickly learn the ropes. The POA is responsible for our streets, parks, the boat and RV storage area, gate operations, and annual community events, including the Fourth of July parade and the Christmas Lighting Contest.

UPCOMING CERT CLASS

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is a training program that prepares you to help yourself, your family and your neighbors in the event of a disaster when emergency personnel may not be able to reach everyone right away.

The Burnet County Office of Emergency Management is planning our next CERT training class this fall. This training is free of charge and will be held from 7-10 p.m, on Thursdays,
the location to be determined. There is 7 weeks of training plus a live simulation and graduation. Your only commitment is approximately 26 hours of your time.  This program is made possible by a CAPCOG Citizens Corps Grant Program/CERT which provides the funds for training equipment and supplies.

Register NOW for this class! To get more information and the training schedule, visit our website at www.burnetcountycert.org. Or contact Jim Barho, Burnet County Emergency Management Coordinator at jimbarho@gmail.com, or Jim Gallagher, CERT Training Officer at jdgallagher45@yahoo.com.
