UPCOMING ROAD REPAIRS

Repairs to the inbound and outbound lanes at the Security Gate will be under construction for the next few weeks.  This work will require occasional lane closures during working hours but all lanes will be open at the end of the work day.  You may experience some delays but please be assured we will be taking every effort to minimize such delays and we ask for your patience.

It is anticipated that all work will be completed by the end of August.  We thank you for your patience.

BACK TO SCHOOL
school-bus-banner.jpg

Marble Falls ISD classes start next Monday, August 24th. The buses will be coming through the neighborhood beginning at 6:50 a.m. through 7:40 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through 4:40 p.m. Please use extra caution while driving during these times. As a reminder, it is against the law to pass a school bus in either direction when the lights are on, and the fine for doing so is a minimum of $500.

MAYOR'S CORNER
Greetings!

This summer has really flown by. School starts this coming Monday! That means traffic will increase A LOT - both cars and school buses will be in the neighborhood early in the morning and again in the afternoon. Those of us who walk (many of us with our dogs) will need to be extra observant - and be prepared to step into a yard to give the cars and buses plenty of room to pass us. Our speed limit is just 25 MPH - at most. In some areas, it is less - for good reasons. Please slow down - and put away your cell phones! Even "hands free" is distracting.

I have a habit of carrying an extra plastic shopping bag so I can pick up any trash I find in the streets while walking Sugar (my 80 lb. Rhodesian Ridgeback). Usually, there is very little trash, but Monday evening, at the intersection of Deer Lick and Mahan, I found three small (50 ML/1 oz.) empty bottles of "99 Cinnamon" - the label says it is a cinnamon liqueur that is 49.5% alcohol - 99 proof! I don't want to try to guess who might have felt it was appropriate to dispose of them in the street - or at least more appropriate than taking them home to put them in the family's trash.

As is usual with construction projects, renovation of the main dining room at Hidden Falls is taking a bit longer than expected (hoped). All of the flooring in the main dining room will be removed and replaced with that beautiful tile that looks like wood, and that project is now scheduled to be completed by Tuesday, August 25th.   I am sure it will be worth the wait!

UPCOMING CERT CLASS

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is a training program that prepares you to help yourself, your family and your neighbors in the event of a disaster when emergency personnel may not be able to reach everyone right away.

The Burnet County Office of Emergency Management is planning our next CERT training class this fall. This training is free of charge and will be held from 7-10 p.m, on Thursdays,
the location to be determined. There is 7 weeks of training plus a live simulation and graduation. Your only commitment is approximately 26 hours of your time.  This program is made possible by a CAPCOG Citizens Corps Grant Program/CERT which provides the funds for training equipment and supplies.

Register NOW for this class! To get more information and the training schedule, visit our website at www.burnetcountycert.org. Or contact Jim Barho, Burnet County Emergency Management Coordinator at jimbarho@gmail.com, or Jim Gallagher, CERT Training Officer at jdgallagher45@yahoo.com.
